Today marks the 37th anniversary of the death of William Russell Flint, a premier painter and printmaker of the old century, and fan of buff chicks. In his 60s, established (and knighted) artist Flint began painting muscular nude women and selling the prints to English ladies to hang in their parlors. Probably the most striking of these is Maruja the Strong (NSFW), but he also did earlier work such as Homage to Demeter that likewise feature strong-limbed lasses.

Check out this nice, free collection of his work at ArtRenewal.org, and if you have the means ($400) you might consider picking up this print of a study for Maruja the Strong (NSFW), which shows a considerably more jacked-up Maruja than the finished work.
