Muscular Swordswomen
Muscular Swordswomen in Rivals
I was cruising through the Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell site this evening when I came across a painting I really liked. It's easy to love the way that Boris & Julie so consistently show off anatomical musculature in their female characters. The close-up at right was taken from one they call Rivals. (The two sell prints at their site, and there are numerous size options.)

A lot of Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell art shows up on the covers of books, which is how many people are first exposed to their work. I think my first exposure was Boris' art on Dungeons & Dragons paraphernalia, but I also have an early memory of one of his paintings - depicting an accountant daydreaming and imagining himself as a muscular barbarian - appearing in Games Magazine around 1980.

I really enjoy their work.

[Boris Vallejo and Julie Bell]

Update: Silent One informs me in the comments that these characters are "Firiona Vie and Natasla from the Everquest games."

Awesome looking print. I can remember first seeing Boris' art in the late 70's early 80's. Buff/busty chicks riding dragons and such were an attention getter. For anyone interested in this sort of thing the characters are (left to right) Firiona Vie and Natasla from the Everquest games.
