Amazona
Amazona by Chris Achilléos
I was looking through Amazon.com listings over the weekend and found that in November, Chris Achilléos put out a paperback edition of his most recent art book, Amazona.  You've probably seen his work before.  Achilléos often paints warrior women of one variety or another - Celtic, viking, American Indian, etc - and he's in the top tier of commercial fantasy artists.

From what I was able to learn, the book is divided up into three sections, amazons, fantasy and glamour, and there are more than 100 prints contained in the volume.   The glamour section sounds particularly interesting, with lots of old-style cheesecake and pin-ups.

Amazon.com wants 14 bucks for the book - that's about 13 cents a print.  It's a no-brainer.  I expect each and every one of you to buy a copy.

Update: I found Achilléos' official site, and the provided link graphic was too good to pass up.  I can't wait to get the book.  It's surprising, from the quality of his work, that he doesn't have a wider following in North America.  I'm not claiming that Achilléos is unknown in the U.S., just that he's not as well known as he ought to be.  It's odd that talented Britons and Irish seem to sometimes get bottled up on the home islands or only find international recognition in Europe.

Obviously this doesn't happen to Americans very often.  A successful American artist, actor or singer tends to be a celebrity everywhere, just based on the dynamics of global media production and distribution - and Canadians, Australians, Kiwis and other native English speakers know they must penetrate the American market to find wider success.  They often do so - the door is open.   The British Isles, however, are populous enough that people can be very successful without having to promote themselves abroad.  That's great for them, but the rest of us miss out a little bit.
