Caitlin Fairchild & Worldstorm
Wednesday, 11 October 2006
DC Comics' Wildstorm universe is undergoing a "reboot" - the whole thing is being refreshed with cleaned-up continuity and new storylines to undo the blot of Wildstorm's first 13 years. Still, there's little point in starting fresh if the company still aims to produce dreck, and that seems to be what it's doing. Gen13 #1 is out today and I'm less than impressed. DC also released Worldstorm, and aside from a terrific cover by Art Adams, it too is lackluster. Suck before, suck after - where's the change?

They're holding off on what will be the quality books: Authority and WildCats. Morrison isn't the best writer in the industry, but when he hits his stride it's something else.

I hate reboots! If you're not proud of your product then just don't create it anymore!

You can always just take what you have and write good material for your product. Don't redo the entire origin and make things different. That's just cheating the readers of the book.

I'm done with my rant.

I have to say, Gen13 didn't impress me much at all. It was just... dull. I'll give it maybe one or two more issues before I give up on it. But so far... it's just a bit crappy.

...with an artist who doesn't draw girls particularly hot. It has no point.

I thought he drew Roxy quite hot. And I liked Caitlin on the cover. But we'll see as the artist gets into a groove, what they'll be doing with her. One panel, when she Hulk-leaps onto the IO car, she looks very big, but later on, much smaller. Perhaps she can turn her body on and off? Maybe inconsistency. We'll see.

If the cover of issue 1 is any indication, they shrunk Caitlin's muscles and shrunk her chest. As Lingster said, it's a hot girl book without the main girl being drawn very hot any more. Excuse me for being a heterosexual male, but I find this version (judging by the cover) less appealing than the previous version.
