There are three absolutely must-buy comics this week.
The first is Birds of Prey #105, which features the fabulous cover at right. That's "Knockout" wearing the red hair and muscles. She was originally introduced (I think) as a potential love interest back in the 1990s Superboy series, but she's stuck around and gone bisexual. Going bisexual is all the rage at DC Comics these days, so it turns out Fredric Wertham was right all along. [Birds of Prey #105]
Robin #161 is also available this week. The book features the second appearance of a hypermuscular, superstrong steroid freak girl and her likewise over-developed henchmen. The storyline is less fun than a barrel of potheads, though, so the art is pretty much the only justification for picking it up. [Robin #161]
Marvel manages to keep up in the female power category with Mighty Avengers #2, featuring some outstanding Frank Cho artwork. Cho's work is lovingly rendered and as usual features some outrageously sexy ladies. For example, there's a two-page spread of the Black Widow about two thirds of the way through the issue that is, for lack of a better word, stirring. Cho draws her big and strong and sexy. Mmmm! [Mighty Avengers #2]
In closing, I would once again like to express my opposition to the removal of page numbers from comic books. I like page numbers, and I want them back.
