So many times in the past, a movie release has been accompanied by a crappy comic crassly riding its coattails.
Finally, someone has tried something different.
To mark the release of the animated Justice League - The New Frontier, DC Comics and Darwyn Cooke have released a one-shot "Classified" issue that is just tremendous.
It's terrific.
There are three stories in this issue:
A supremely cool "Jet Age" interpretation of Frank Miller's Superman/Batman fight from Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, with a pleasing appearance by Darwyn Cooke's bombshell Wonder Woman.
Am entertaining homage to classic sidekick backup stories featuring Robin and another surprise guest.
A Wonder Woman/Black Canary team-up story with amusing pop culture intersects, including a very circular cameo by Gloria Steinem.
Anyway, it's great. Artist J. Bone has posted a page of his work, which appears in the third story, at his blog.
