The series focuses on Kate Spencer, a frustrated prosecuting attorney / divorcee / mother who is tired of seeing murderous "super criminals" be let off the hook for reasons like genetic anomaly ("It wasn't Copperhead’s fault he ate his victims, his genes told him to"), or other such nonsense defenses. So having trained and prepared both mentally and physically, she breaks into the evidence room and gathers some high-tech weapons. The hunt is on. Kate is a vigilante in the truest sense of the word; she tracks down these criminals and plays judge, jury, and executioner, which is something that most heroes are reluctant to do.

Gals who have thought about getting into comics but have been turned off by the prevalent portrayal of scantily clad and unrealistic women in comics should especially check Manhunter out. She is a strong and independent woman who doesn’t back down from a fight in court or her private life. Quick thinking and calculating are also some of the mental traits that she possesses. As well, she is drawn like an athlete, not a supermodel, and her costume is practical — no unnecessarily exposed skin. Kate makes mistakes but learns and grows from them, which makes her relatable to the reader.
