Supergirl
Supergirl by Ross Campbell
What will all the crappy rendering and sluttification of Supergirl that's been going on lately, and the character's history of changing her look, Project Rooftop came up with a Draw Supergirl event. My favorite renditions are by: Some other fun stuff: This Wonder Woman is also pretty terrific, and this review of The Grave Robber's Daughter will make you laugh.

It must be hard to update a character who wears a mini-skirt. Boys today are so perverted.

The WW design looks too cosmopolitan. And why does she need a sword? Sorry, McKelvie, she looks like a hybrid of Xena and Buffy. WW may look outdated, but it's a look that is her own.

Ummm...she's the representative of a bronze age warrior society?

A sword with no sheath? Might as well have given a bow without arrows.

It has a magical sheath that appears when she's not using it.

She uses hocus pocus for her sword, but not for her dangling lasso? He should have applied Stan Lee's version. The armor produces the weapons. Or give her something like the magical pouch Perseus used to carry Medusa's head. Its capacity is limitless.

...but I think that Campbell's version of Supergirl is brilliant. To say that she looks like a lesbian is, IMHO as judgemental as some of the "muscular women look like lesbians" propaganda against which we are fighting. Lesbian women come in all types and kinds - plenty of cute, punky girls are straight. Seeing as I like punky girls in big, stompy boots, I was always going to like it.
I'm not so sure about the Wonder Woman costume, although it's certainly more modern than the existing one, and I agree with the artist when he says
Quote:
I always felt that [Wonder Woman’s] costume and accessories were a real mish-mash with no overall unity, which is something I’ve tried to bring to this design.

...looks like a lesbian is, IMHO, my opinion. I'm not stating it as fact. I know lesbians come in all types-my sister plays for that team. I just think that the tomboy hairdo with no hair on the sides looks quite "dykey".

Perhaps it is STEREOTYPICALLY lesbian, but aren't we in the business of not blindly accepting stereotypes on this board?
I still maintain that it's more punk-like than dykey, though.

You limeys are always going on about stereotypes.

I liked the Wonder Woman, looks sort of like the "Justice Lords" version from the Justice League toon.
There's a similar Power Girl themed challenge here.

Id have to agree with Delmo. Not that I have anything against it, but the lesbian association did come to mind. Maybe its because I have so many friends and coworkers that are butch lesbians (the term 'dykes' is derogatory) and wear similar hair styles. Perhaps things are different overseas, as punk girls arent very common in my neck of the woods (emo kids however are plentiful and annoying).

That Power Girl looks pretty butch, too.

You see, to me, whilst she may look tomboyish, she's not butch in the way you mean it, i.e. butch lesbian. P.S. To anyone offended, I apologise about continuing the use of the word "dykey" in this thread - I was lazy and used it because it had been used before I commented, but that doesn't excuse me using it.

Yes. All limeys are always offended by stereotypes.

What if they applied the Robin 1 costume design more to Supergirl? The white t-shirt costume has gloves. But what would she look like if she had the simpler cuffs instead of the 90's thick version, red panties, and red slippers?
