MTV.com Article on Wonder Woman Movie
Sunday, 10 December 2006
There's an article at MTV.com about the casting issues on Wonder Woman. The author speculates on some possible choices, including Mischa Barton and Lindsay Lohan, either of whom would be a catastrophe. The only suitable candidate listed is Evangeline Lilly, although there's some slim chance that Priyanka Chopra could do it.

I've read 50 articles like this before; that they persist without any announcement perplexes me. My very limited understanding of Hollywood finance suggests that there's still not much pressure to name a star, which means the movie is still in limbo. My interest in this game of endless speculation has waned.

As far as I've heard - the SCRIPT for Wonder Woman isn't even done yet. This, I think, is good for since a script that Joss Whedon has reworked and worked on and given real time to produce is likely to be good, and will should hopefully turn the tide of the current wave of shite hollywood superhero blockbusters which seem to be written on a napkin while waiting for a big mac and fries, with the thinking that CGI will sort out any plot holes in post-development.

But then, considering Fantastic Four got a sequel, obviously the happy meal approach to film making is doing fine.

Let's just hope that Wonder Woman is as good as Firefly.

And if it isn't... well, let's hope All-Star Wonder Woman kicks ass.

...will this movie be released? There's no way in hell that it could make a Christmas 2007 date if the script isn't finished yet. The Dark Knight is due Summer 2008, and Superman VI is due Summer 2009. Are we looking at a Summer 2010 date?

Serenity was ready for release less than a year after filming started, but then the studio pushed back the release.

Serenity was very nice, but not as shiny as the tv show. It felt more like a tv movie, sadly, than a cinematic blockbuster. We shall see...

This thing is still in the script phase, which means everything could come screeching to a halt before even getting greenlit (and then cast). Whedon was hired to write (and then direct) the project, but that doesn't mean it's a lock -- it could change based on interest level, studio pressure, scheduling, etc. Remember, it took over a decade and numerous creative teams before Superman ever fluttered back onto screens. Warner Bros. has plenty of cash (and other properties), they don't need to be in any kind of hurry. Unless the studio loves the script and puts it on the fast track, it's quite a ways from casting.

And Jessica Biel is the only major actress I can think of with both the acting chops and the physique for the role.

I get what you're saying, but it's not true in this case, I think, simply because superhero films are 'in' right now, and everyone wants another Spider-Man, X-Men, or Batman franchise, Wonder Woman will be a project they'll want fast-tracked as it should make a lot of people lots of money. I have no doubt this film is definately coming out, though it's true, Whedon might get kicked off the project. We'll see.

Ordinarily that would be the case, but WB has a history of mishandling DC properties (Catwoman?). And Superman Returns was a box office failure at the end of the day, considering how much money they sunk into it. And Wonder Woman is a much tougher sell, commercially speaking.

Wonder Woman strikes me as a campy idea, no matter who writes and directs it. If we're to base Whedon's work on Firefly & the movie, then it'll still be PG-13 camp.

People write these articles because frankly if the didn't the world would start to focus on real news and realize they've been living drugged on pop culture while the rest of the world passed by.
