Whatever It Takes
Whatever It Takes
Few critics spoke well of 1999's Whatever It Takes, starring Andrew "Dice" Clay, Don "The Dragon" Wilson and Fred "The Hammer" Williamson. The critics had good reason: the movie sucks. The IMDB page lists no writing credit - not even "Alan Smithee" - so either somebody doesn't want to be associated with this turkey or the movie didn't actually have a screenplay. Both scenarios seem equally possible.

Whatever It Takes has one good thing in abundance - muscle chicks. It's a veritable who's who of the late 90s fitness modeling scene:
  • Vicky Pratt (topless scene!)
  • Christine Lydon
  • Ericca Kern
  • Deidre Pagnanelli
  • Laurie Vaniman
  • Patty Sanchez
  • Sherry Gideons
Apart from a single reference to The Adventures of Ford Fairlane (the only movie ever made bold enough to hang a koala bear) there's little else to commend this film. Half the scenes are a piss-poor knock-off of a Tarantino flick.

While you probably won't be able to find this dog at your local Blockbuster, you can pick it up for about the same amount of money on Amazon.com

Funny that the pictures are the reverse of the credits on the box.
Kenny Kassel is a friend of Don and he had come to several Extravaganza's. Kenny was co-promoter of the show and has emceed quite a few IFBB shows.
I'd check out your local supermarket. A lot of "The Dragon's" videos show up there. You know where. Those videos that are usually $3.99 on up.

How did you come to watch it, Lingster?

I noticed that it showed up in the IMDB listings of several FBBs and fitness models, so I ordered it for a couple bucks on Amazon.com.

...is actually a director's credit; when a director feels his movie's been "ruined" by the studio, the credit "Directed by Alan Smithee" is substituted. I don't know if that's a Director's Guild of America rule, or just a Hollywood custom. Writers usually use pseudonyms of their own devising.

I can only recall seeing one movie with the "Dircted by Alan Smithee" credit: a TV-movie edit of David Lynch's Dune (!)

Through my research, I found the DGA made directors stop using the moniker in 1997 for US theatrical releases. Other names have been used. Walter Hill used "Thomas Lee" for the 2000 bust "Supernova". "Alan" has been used when some films transfer to TV like "Scent Of A Woman". Michael Mann used Alan when "Heat" and "The Insider" on TV. So occasionally Alan's work still gets made.

Are the scences Pratt is in worth the four bucks?

It depends how much you like Vicki Pratt, I suppose. I feel like I got my money's worth.
