The Descent
Saturday, 05 August 2006
Oddly, hot spelunker chick horror flick The Descent has yet to be released on Region 1 (North America) DVD.

The film received generally good reviews and was received enthusiastically last year as the latest in a line of recent, strong British horror flicks. The Descent was inspired by Deliverance, of all things, with athletic, manly-man Burt Reynolds and his pals replaced with hot girl jock Natalie Mendoza and hers, and the rednecks replaced with subhuman subterranean monster thingies.

Update: OK, apparently the reason it hasn't been released in the U.S. on DVD is that it's just been released for the first time in theatres in the U.S., despite being released last summer in most of Europe and much of Asia. Somehow I missed that when I was reading up on it. The trailer is viewable at Red Balcony. Here's the AOL Movies listing.

For what it's worth, Neil Marshall's "Dog Soldiers" went the same way, I think. Also, "Dog Soldiers" was a really terrifically done werewolf movie. If "The Descent" holds up to that it should be well worth it. I wondered if this movie wasn't perhaps made in the European market from all the non-American stars...
