Yorkie Bag
Hurry Max! Jamie's in trouble!
The British press is atwitter over Michelle Ryan, the actress who has been cast to play Jamie Sommers in NBC's "Bionic Woman" autumn 2007 reboot. From the photos, it looks as if the producers have removed the hippie-commune context of the original series and plugged in a Matrix-esque sensibility. Gone are the bell-bottoms and pastoral California hill country, and in their place are black leather, rain, moral ambiguity and (probably) that new extended storytelling arc format of which Hollywood has grown so fond. Hell, Sommers ain't even a blond anymore.

No word on whether Sommers will have a bionic dog, but if so I hope it's a Yorkshire Terrier rather than a German Shepherd. Just imagine a bionic Yorkie bounding out of one of those little doggie handbags, with the "tchit-tchit-tchit-tchit" sound effect!

The Daily Mail has the most photos, and The Sun has the most groan-worthy headline.

Update: According to Ain't It Cool News, "Battlestar Galactica"'s Katie Sackhoff plays the crazy blond bionic psycho nemesis of Jamie Sommers.

It could be a neat show but my gut feeling is that it will not.

OT: A problem that I never overcame with the original is that the Bionic Woman only had two bionic legs and an arm which should preclude many of the feats of strength seen, such as lifting a car using the bionic arm. Sackhoff's character seemingly has bionics throughout her body which should provide the structural system needed to pick up a car. ... TV not real...
