Brisco County, Jr on DVD
Thursday, 25 May 2006
Many Amaz0ns readers will fondly remember "The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr." from the early 1990s. The western/sci-fi/comedy series introduced Bruce Campbell (and Comet the Wonder Horse) to mainstream audiences but ran for just one season - August of 1993 to May of 1994. (It aired on the dreaded Fox Network, canceller of many great programs.) The show is finally (!) being released on DVD July 18.

Brisco County DVDWhile the scripting and acting were great, the thing that really set Brisco County apart was the women. Homina homina homina! Kelly Rutherford as series regular Dixie Cousins was luminously beautiful and certainly reason enough to watch the show. But there was more! Cory Everson appeared in two episodes ("No Man's Land" and "Steel Horses") as female blacksmith Katrina Schwenke, and her real-life sister Cameo Kneuer played Katrina's sister and fellow blacksmith Ilsa Schwenke. The two of them were absolute visions of muscular femininity: brawny, bare-sleeved beauties hefting sledgehammers and other large heavy things. It was quite moving. ST:TNG's Denise Crosby also appeared as a sort of female analog of Brisco - a tough, sharp-shooting hottie sheriff.

Soon the series will be on DVD - Amazon.com is accepting advance orders now. There's really no good reason not to buy it.

I remember liking the show because Army of Darkness had recently come out and I officially joined the cult of Sam Raimi/Bruce Campbell about the same period. I seem to recall another episode where Sheena Easton had an appearance at probably the height of her fitness hottie period (she had done commercials for Bally about the same time frame I believe.) Certainly not in the same league as Cory Everson but still a fine example of the benefits of a good fitness routine.

Yeah, I was going to mention that but it seemed tangential. Do you remember those legs of hers, in the 80s and early 90s? Jayzus!

She'd have been an even bigger star if she spoke English.
