Cleopatra 2525

It wasn't Shakespeare, that's for sure, but during its two-season run, Cleopatra 2525 gave us 28 episodes of an amazon future, starring Victoria Pratt, Gina Torres and Jennifer Sky.

Synopsis: Accidentally put into cryogenic sleep after breast implant surgery, Cleopatra (Sky), awakens more than 500 years in the future to find humanity reduced to living in underground warrens, because evil robots called "Baileys" dominate the surface world. (In my experience, Baileys are far less dangerous than "Jagermeisters", "Jim Beams" or "Akvavits", but never mind that.) Hel (Torres) and Sarge (Pratt), wind up guiding the shallow (but very, very pretty) 20th century native through the post-apocalyptic tomorrowland. The plot of nearly every episode hinges on the trio of ladies beating the paste out of a bunch of guys.

Pratt is a bodybuilder-turned-actress who still had much of her muscle mass at the time of the show. (She has since slimmed down considerably.) Torres is tall and strong-looking, and frequently cast as a female warrior-type. She played a very similar role in Joss Whedon's "Firefly" franchise. Jennifer Sky seemed waifish next to the two amazons, but she'd earlier demonstrated physical competence and athleticism in Xena: Warrior Princess. Cleopatra 2525 is a pretty good time.

This show was corny as could be but I was a fan and not just because the scorching, Victoria Pratt was in it. The plot was very promising and it so much more could've been done with it if they just gave it a chance and took a few changes in direction. I'm also a fan of Gina Torres.
