Gina Carano is Crush
Thus far only one person on the whole wide web has made a pun about having a "crush" on Gina Carano, recently christened as the American Gladiator "Crush" in the new series premiering January 6th on NBC. Once "American Gladiators" starts, of course, every TV writer in America will at least be tempted to trot it out. I'm still ahead of the curve, however, and since it is so very easy to gaze longingly into the photographed eyes of Gina Carano I will admit that I have a bit of a crush on Crush.

Carano is profiled in an article on the Bleacher Report:

With Gina added to the cast of Gladiators, many young women may find themselves cheering for the MMA Black Belt Magazine Hall-of-Famer to "kick the contestants on their asses" in the ever popular jousts with padded pugil sticks (which resemble oversized Q-tips).

Gina's MMA skills may not be as useful as her spirit, balance, and pure athletic ability, since out-and-out assault on contestants is frowned upon. Even Gina has allowed it will be hard for her to maintain an intimidating facial expression, as she often has been criticized for grinning at her opponents in the MMA arena.

Her smile, however, may make it easier to identify with her than with the first-generation Gladiators, who were as stone-faced as fearsome gargoyles.

Carano reminds me of Linda Fiorentino back when she made Vision Quest, and what a great movie it would have been if instead Fiorentino had gotten all buffed up to become an elite athlete while Matthew Modine gave her the nurturing support she needed. [Sigh.]

It's good to have other athletes in the program.
