Tanji Johnson is too smart for American Gladiators

American Gladiators
Brace yourselves before reading on, because the day has come when I link to something at the Huffington Post and some of you may experience symptoms of post-trauma afterwards.
David Wallechinsky wrote about his son's visit to the set of "American Gladiators" today. He tells the following story:
During the taping of a preview interview, one of the contestants, an African-American woman named Tanji Johnson, was asked her strategy for racing to the top of a rock-climbing wall while being chased by another gladiator. She replied, "I plan to get to the top as expeditiously as possible."
"CUT!!!"
The production staff had a talk with Johnson. Retake. This time, Johnson, a college graduate, answered, "I plan to get to the top as fast as possible." Perfect.
By season three they'll have her saying, "Tanji climb fast!"
Once the script writers strike is over you should send in your resume to the show.
Great line
Vas
PS - even more impressive Tanji used expeditious as opposed to expedient, the former being the 'correcter' term for the situation.

Funny, Vas, but I thought you'd be more enamored of my post from earlier this morning, where I wrote that "there's just something magical about a good-looking woman who can crush your chest cavity like a zit."

Incredible! The network doesn't believe people could understandt the word 'expeditiously'. :D

Or they don't think the use of multisyllabic words is consistent with the characterization of the gladiators.

Hmpf. Well they're not going to be shouting "Roma Victor!".
What's next? They can't say words like 'persistent', 'strategically', 'courageously', 'circumnavigate', 'determination', or 'fortitude'?

What was really funny to me is how the "son" confused ME, Tanji Johnson (STEALTH), one of the American Gladiators, for one of the African American contestants. :) I guess they all look alike...

Do I have the pleasure of responding to Ms Jonson herself? If so, good evening to you, and welcome (it is evening where I'm from).
In reply to Lingster, I applaud him for both his comment on the way the producers evidently view the role of the Gladiators AND in finally having an attack of good taste sufficient for him to link to the Huffington Post. I am sure we will soon catch him agreeing with Keith Olbermann. 8) :D

You know, I have no real problem with the concept of sex sells, but I can't think of anything inherently sexier that a woman that is both physically beautiful *and* smart.
Why in the world would they undercut that?
