Dumping Weider?
Wednesday, 14 June 2006
According to the New York Times, American Media is seeking to unload the former Weider Publications magazines it acquired in 2002: Muscle & Fitness, Flex, Muscle & Fitness Hers. The reasons given seem a bit sketchy.

American Media probably found that the actual body building/fitness market had reached a plateau and they couldn't expand it as well as they wanted particularly in the harder fitness area that the group of mags serves. I bet also that the advertizing revenue was inflated thanks to Weider's constant self promotion of it's own powder mixes. Of course a near complete dropping of female bodybuilding probably didn't help in the schmoo sales small as they might be.

Schmoo sales! You know, I still sometimes refer to myself as a schmoo, but I don't hear that word much from other... schmoos. It doesn't seem to be used so much anymore.

You will note that our definition of schmoo is not in wikipedia . Perhaps one of us shoudl fix that? ;)

Actually, I'd prefer that word die. Yes. I never liked it. It's demeaning. Why do I have to have "THAT" word hang on me? Because I "prefer" toned, fit, muscular women to frail skin and bones? Or BBW?(Big Beautiful Women, does not mean big and buff, but fat!) I don't need this made up word hanging around. We should just let it die.
