AlexG (http://amaz0ns.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,95/action,profile/u,6) brought this artist to my attention in his post a few days ago (http://amaz0ns.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,95/topic,3027.0) about an item for sale on eBay by an artist named Daikon (http://tamagoland.blogspot.com/) (eBay id:tamagoland).  The guy has got a pretty interesting style and seems to draw mostly comic book and game characters.  I dug around eBay and have rehosted some of these pics at ImageShack (http://www.imageshack.us) since some of them are gone now that the auctions have ended.  I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for his stuff in the future:

If a Japanese animation studio wanted to do anime versions of Marvel or DC characters, this is the guy they should hire for the character designs. I'd prefer these to the Bruce Timm versions.

I've seen this style before -- in that Metroid manga from a few years back, and also in the ending pics of Metroid Fusion.

I wouldn't be surprised a bit if it were the same guy. There tends to be significant overlap between professional manga artists and fan artists.

According to Daikon's blog (Tamagoland) (http://tamagoland.blogspot.com/) some created a website dedicated to his artwork (http://www.daikon-art.com).  In addition, he had a few rounds of artwork on eBay in the last few months.  His Photobucket account (http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f22/lattelovesong/) still has most of them up there, including this NSFW topless drawing of his Amazon character (http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f22/lattelovesong/?action=view&current=061204red.jpg) that you don't want to miss.

*gasp*  :o  You're not wrong there!  Bloody hell she's huge (in at least two distinct ways!)

Thanks for keeping an eye out for all the hot links, Elee - it's much appreciated.  I imagine it must take a lot of your time to do it.

BTW - the website dedicated to Daikon's work refers to Daikon as 'she' and many of the pics on the site show the same female pair of nail-polished hands holding up artworks - the artist herself?  Somehow I always find it really cool when a woman draws femuscle/good girl art, not that it's not cool when a bloke does it - it's just... er... cool.  Meh

Whoa!  The piece sold for $152.50, the highest price of any of in that last batch of sketches.

It's a shame the Marilyn Monroe item (http://cgi.ebay.com/MARILYN-MONROE-Sexy-Original-Sketch-Pinup-DaiKon-Art_W0QQitemZ300216176709QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3986QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) sold for the lowest price of this batch at $20.50.  I'm surprised the Cavewoman item (http://cgi.ebay.com/CAVEWOMAN-Sexy-Original-Sketch-Pinup-DaiKon-Art_W0QQitemZ300216173021QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3986QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) wasn't far from that at $21.75.  I guess there are a lot of Rose fans since that one (http://cgi.ebay.com/ROSE-SF-Zero-Sexy-Original-Sketch-Pinup-DaiKon-Art_W0QQitemZ300216179875QQihZ020QQcategoryZ3986QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) went for the highest of the lot at $113.50.  Hmm, that commission option is looking more and more attractive.

I love her artwork. It's quite crisp and clean and manages to be both stylized and realistic at the same time. It's manga-esque, but stops short of the traditional character deformities of that style, instead using a look more realistic like what Production I.G. (Ghost In The Shell and IGPX) usually does.

Try to commission a She-Hulk transformation out of Daikon if you can. I have a feeling that a decent sequence from her would rapidly become legendary around here.

It is easy to run out of superlatives when trying to describe his work.  All I will say is this-- I am ever so grateful that he is as prolific as he is.
