Title: Story Ban
Post by: CptMatt on Jan 31, 2009, 02:14 PM
Is the posting new stories on the forums still in effect?

I'm just asking because I had some ideas recently and wanted to type them up, but I hate posting to "public" websites (i.e. Deviant) or ones that are billed as sites for writing (i.e. Brawna). I've posted to those sorts of sites 4 times in my 16 years on the Internet, 3 of them resulted in my work being ripped off and reposted elsewhere as someone else's. One went so far as to submit and get it published in a printed APA that was sold at SF/Anime conventions.

Yeah, the ban's still in effect.  What makes you think Amaz0ns isn't "public"?

You were ripped-off and yet you still want to do on-line vanity publishing,
   I don’t understand that.  ???

Because Amaz0ns isn't billing as a writing or art site, like Deviant or Brawna. I know it's public, but I don't think it's draw is people looking for stories. It wasn't for me. It was only after I saw others posting that I did the 2 vampire stories.

I don't have another venue for the stories that I might write for here, and I know there is still a chance of it being "lifted", but I think the chance is less on here than on a fanfic devoted website or the usenet. I stay away from those completely.

The stuff I truly hope to get published in some way (APA, book, etc) gets nowhere near the internet.  ;D

What about a separate BLOG page that you could link to?

I thought about that, but don't have the money right now to sign up with a blog provider site.

I'm not sure what decade you're living in, Capt but I'm pretty sure your bog standard blog page hasn't cost anything this side of the millennium.

Blogger, Livejournal, wordpress... None of them will cost you a dime and you can limit access if you should be inclined to do so.

Or hell, if you want to do that you could just use google documents.

Bottom line - lotta free blogs out there.
