Title: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: Maitolasi on Apr 26, 2009, 05:55 PM Are held in Taldykorgan, Kazakhstan. It seems to be quite difficult to get some information about those - not to mention visual material - but lets see how this can be sorted out. I created this topic this early hoping that here would be some Asians who could kick me in the right direction. Probably not but let's give it a shot anyway.
Lets see. Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: Maitolasi on May 05, 2009, 06:08 PM 1. Sunday 11 May: Women 48kg. & 53kg. ( Groups A ,B ) Men 56kg. (Group A, B) and Men 62kg. ( Group B )

Level in those competitions is just sick. Big country and popular sport there, I guess it explains. Cao Lei was the only Beijing winner of four to take part in that competition. Interesting. I hope they would take part in Asian champs or at least world champs. Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: Maitolasi on May 12, 2009, 01:43 PM From now on I'll write these reports [urlhttp://maitolasi.blogspot.com/]here[/url].
Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: Maitolasi on May 13, 2009, 07:57 PM Lets see if Lei, Vazhenina and Podobedova all participate in 75 kilo kategory. It would be a real match to see. And also would like to see Ilya Ilin's performance. That guy is just phenomenal.
Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: colt13 on May 14, 2009, 04:21 PM You arent spamming. In fact, i use you for info as we dont have Eurosport US(but Fox has a Soccer channel). Let's face it, if it weren't for the internet, the only time i would see weightlifting would be during the Olympics(for 5 minutes anyway).
Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: Maitolasi on May 14, 2009, 04:45 PM Well Podobedova cut today Cao Lei's three-year winning streak. The Kazakh won with flying colours lifting 130+150 and made attempts at 157 to better world record which she shares with the Chinese.
Lei was left 22 kg behind which was a bit disappointment. Although she was already struggling in Chinese championships with 248 total, so at least the reigning olympic winner is going to right direction. I don't know is her preparation still midway but she did a lot better previous year. I don't quite know what is going on on Russian weightlifting federation, but several athletes have moved to Kazakhstan because they have felt that they've been mistreated. Svetlana missed her chances to participate the Beijing olympics due to Russian federetion resistance; there were some illegibilities in her citizenship. But they do something right in there, since there are FOUR Russians or ex-Russians who are capable of winning gold. It seems that this division is going to be one of the toughest this year. Can't wait to see the world champs. Not much to see in this thread...it was obvious from the start but wanted to give it a shot anyway. I'm a bit surpices since the only available source was sport sites from Kazakhstan and even those didn't have much to say. Complete results, stats no no ::) Lets put some old photos of Svetlana and Cao so this thead won't be completely useless ;D (http://image2.club.sohu.com/pic/e1/2c/bjaoyun783b5688b112412e.jpg) (http://news.eastday.com/s/20080816/images/01363379.jpg) (http://i0.sinaimg.cn/2008/cn/wl/p/2008-08-15/U1163P461T5D210622F154DT20080815193049.jpg) Hmm no real pictures about Svetlana. Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: Maitolasi on May 14, 2009, 04:48 PM You arent spamming. In fact, i use you for info as we dont have Eurosport US(but Fox has a Soccer channel). Let's face it, if it weren't for the internet, the only time i would see weightlifting would be during the Olympics(for 5 minutes anyway). Quite true. Happy to hear that not all of these writings go in vain, although you can't actually call these real reports. At least they show Euro and World Championships around here. So I've understood, that olympic lifting isn't popular – like it would be somewhere – back there. Can't actually remember any really good US lifter participating in several years. Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: colt13 on May 15, 2009, 08:44 PM In regards to tennis, Shedova and Karantcheva(Kaz) both changed their nationality due to support and financial backing. Wouldn't be surprised that be the case in other sports too.

Post by: Maitolasi on May 17, 2009, 10:51 AM In regards to tennis, Shedova and Karantcheva(Kaz) both changed their nationality due to support and financial backing. Wouldn't be surprised that be the case in other sports too. Might be possible. A bit austere but what can you do. It's not a perfect world and I can't really blame them. If you would get an offer with a lot better wage and work circumstances, would you say no? Turkey offered 10 million dollars for Hossein Rezazadeh if he would join their olympic team and win gold. But he didn't want to chance his nationality. I guess in some cases you can get rich in weightlifting. But nobody choses this sport because of money. I guess there in the states people with great strength talent choose NFL instead. One of my favourite lifters, Nahla Ramadan, got kicked out of the Egypt's weightlifting most likely due to rumours that she is going to chance her nationality. The official version was that she didn't show up to the training camp, but that is quite hard to believe; she was on of the most promising Egypt's athletes at the time. But still there are some odd cases in Russian's weightlifting team. E.g. Mikhail Koklyaev had some problems with them and then he changed to strongman competitions. As far as I'm aware, his first target would have been to take olympic gold but now it seems impossible. Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Post by: cpbell0033944 on May 18, 2009, 10:27 AM I think that powerlifting is probably more spectator-friendly because it tends to have a more aggressive, razammatazz style than Olympic lifting, which seems a purer and more lonely style of lifting to me somehow.

Nahla is/was one of my favorites, a gifted lifter even though she flamed out on 04. Link to one of her 03 performances. Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Link to one of her 03 performances. Haven't saw that one. There was some rumours about her getting back to Egypt's weightlifting team before the olympics, but I don't know what was the real situation. I guess no since she wasn't there. Maybe some day she will come, maybe. 75 kilo class is looking really tough this year. Title: Re: Asian Weightlifting championships 9-15 May (No TV?) Yet another sad story there of politics interferring with the sporting world. :( Thanks! It just doesn't go the way that sports and olympics would bring nations together. Politics, propaganda purposes and so on. I'm intended to write more about topic but so far I don't have enough information. Chinese and Russian systems – especially in the soviet times – can be quite inhuman yet effective.
