The interesting thing about Caroline Wang is that she has female genitalia , which by most medical standards would qualify her as female. However by current "popular taste" she appears too masculine to qualify her as female.
So now who's actually qualified to be a judge in the sport of bodybuilding;
.. a gym owner, a business sponsor, a fellow sport's person or a medical doctor?
I just want to repeat that I don't think that this is a case of whether they're being unfairly judged as women body builders. I do feel that they should be judged on their physiques (size, shape, definition, presentation, etc). And I do not think that they should be used as some sort of referendum on whether or not female body building is good/bad or right/wrong or anything like that. If they're women who want to pursue body building, their facial looks shouldn't impede them from pursuing that.
But I think that what is skewing the discussion is that their faces look distinctly male. Note, not
masculine.
Male. This isn't about the low fat percentages making their faces look harder and more angular and thus not as feminine as we may expect from a woman (fairly or otherwise). Even in off-season shape, even if they weren't muscular, I bet that they would be easy to confuse as men from the neck up.
Hey, it happens, there are certainly some androgynous men out there, who could pass for a female face even without long hair or make up. I wouldn't use them as an example of gender bias, though, because their appearance is something that isn't common and isn't their fault. I'm sure that bigots will make snap judgments about such people, but it's better to step back and take everything into consideration. Those women look like men, to me. That isn't right or wrong by itself.
