Fantasy writer Naomi Novik has just founded the Organization for Transformative Works to protect writers of fan fiction and creators of other derivative, aka 'transformative' works.  So it's not about transformation fetishes, just about transformation of original source material.

The idea, as I can see, is to protect such creators from frivolous lawsuits by copyright and trademark holders.  Anyway, check it out.

This is definitely something the fanfiction community has needed. Creative Commons and the EFF sort of get into this a bit, but it's not their primary purpose by any stretch of the imagination, and I would love to see someone for whom it *is* the primary purpose.
