There's humiliation involved, but it's relatively minor (mostly just teasing).  For the most part, the girls are younger, but much larger than their male counterparts, and the mothering/nurturing aspect is played up quite often.  Physical/verbal abuse does creep in from time to time, but not that often (at least not like in most stories).  "Reunion in Socal" has got to be my all-time favorite.
