It seems an age ago, but Do You Remember . . .

“Spartkus and Sun Beneath the Sea”

    or

    “The Mysterious Cities of Gold”

Sort of, if you are serious, but I remember better the reinterpration version of Sam J. Jones via the Queen soundtrack (1980).

I don’t “remember” the Flash Gordon serials, they were a couple of decades before my time, but episodes did get occasionally on late night local TV when I was a kid. I went and bought all 3 serials when they came out on DVD, along with the 1 Buck Rogers serial. And the Buck Rogers TV show (Erin Grey in spandex = the stuff dreams are made of). :woohoo: :silly:

    Do you remember Stan Freberg?

    ”The Mysterious Cities of Gold”

    Oh yes.

I purchased the big DVD box about a year ago and watched the whole thing all over again for the first time since i was a kid. Swashbuckling adventure, ancient civilizations, the Golden Condor, those tragic but nasty Olmecs… good stuff.

Three new seasons are apparently in the making, which is pretty awesome:

Three new seasons of 26 episodes each are confirmed and in production, as a co-joint venture between the television channel TF1, the French animation company Blue Spirit and Jean Chalopin’s company Movie-Plus Group. The first of these seasons will see the series moving to Asia. The design for the characters will be the same with some subtle upgrades of the animation. Jean Chalopin produces the show and acts as a creative consultant for the script, which is written by Hadrian Soulez-Lariviere from Chalopin’s own draft for the sequel; while Bernard Deyries reportedly serves as art director. New background music will be composed by Noam Kaniel. The first new season due is due to start airing on TF1 in September 2012.

Thank you Sir von T for the update about MCofG sequel.

As a side note – I’ve been told that “Spartkus” can be found on the Kabillion channel.

Trailer for the new episodes of The Mysterious Cities of Gold:

Plenty of both positive and negative comments… Hard to know what to think.

Still, it’s pretty cool that they went and made a sequel rather than a reboot after three decades. That must be unheard of in the world of saturday morning cartoons. :cheer:

I remember Mysterious Cities Of Gold! At about the same time, we also had Eighty Days Around The World in the UK. I also very vaguely remember Ulysses 31. Those were the days!
