Amazonianized Polaris (Now w/ improved femuscle!)

    Despite the fact of growing larger and taller, including super strength and enhanced invulnerability, Polaris didn’t gain near as much femuscle as one naturally might expect* – of course this was the era of soda-straw arms, even for the She-Hulk or Thundra.  Something similar also happened to Madelyne Pryor in the mini-two parter X-Men / Alpha Flight – some of the rare panels with her Asgardian-Titanessized form were quite impressive, especially in comparsion to Cyclops or Professor X.

    *Ironically, the artists doing the cover work would draw her with a slightly more impressive build – a cut of figure that never matched the inside pages.

    Mark Silvestri's early work. He actually puts quite a bit of female muscle in his work.

    I think this was when Lorna Dane was merged with Malice, She'd draw off negative feelings to fuel her strength. There was a scene on Muir Island with her walking next to Moira McTaggert who only came up to her shoulder if I'm not mistaken. Malice gained entree into Lorna when her powers were sucked out by a woman in the Savage Land. Imprisoned she finds herself growing larger and stronger and breaking free rescues Colossus who is shocked that "she's as big as me!"

    All this is from memory so I could have a few details smudged.

    You've got the general plot correct, except she gained this new Amazonian power after Zaldane sucked her gravitic powers away.  Malice, also, seems to have abandoned Polaris as a host form shortly before that happened.

    I recall an issue of X-Factor, sort of a lighthearted "therapy" issue, where Lorna/Polaris had apparently decided she was fat and had been secretly working out, and revealed her remarkably buff bod.

    Thanks, I've been looking for all of the "Amazon Polaris" issues for years, ever since I read Uncanny #250 and realized she went through this. There are more Polaris pics in #254, and #255. In #254 there's a scene where Moira McTaggart is running tests on Polaris to determine how she got so big – lots of cool dialogue. In #255 she wrecks house on some Reavers.

    The problem with this character arc, though, is that it comes from the era when Uncanny was coming out twice a month, and the X-characters were scattered all over the world – Claremont's scripts for each issue would jump from character to character, sometimes giving us as little as 2 pages of story about what the people in Polaris's story were up to. In issue #258 she's trapped by Legion and then in #274 she has her powers drained … I was unable to figure out what happened to her in between because the plotting was so jumpy. She may have appeared in X-Factor in this time period, too.

    lol!  Sounds brilliant!  Thank goodness those unstable molecule suits never really caught on outside the Fantastic Four…
