Hey guys, maybe some of you have seen it maybe not but starting last week, after absolutely nothing since the forum upgrade, Amaz0ns has been slammed with spam posts. This morning alone so far I’ve banned 48 accounts and deleted 38 topics and that’s on top of the ones Alex nailed earlier. Not sure what’s going on right now but we’ll be doing our best to clean it up as soon as we can. Just letting ya’ll know what’s going on.

I just deleted about 500 spam accounts, all registered in the last week. There are a couple things I’ve set up to block spam so I’m not sure how so many got through. I’m trying to figure it out.

OK, I increased the protection level for the whole site; also I may have found the vulnerability that let them in in the first place, so I closed it. Cross your fingers.

Thanks, I wasn’t sure if deleting them after blocking them would allow them to re-register or not so I just left them blocked in the site registration.

Great work, that odd forum downtime last week followed by this massive spam barrage had me concerned the site had been compromised again.

No way to really know if it’s a bot attack or a paid spam farming operation. Based on the registration times in the system being almost exactly a minute apart in some cases I’m guessing it was a bot attack.

The downtime last weekend was me breaking something. Whoops.

I think the spammers got through Cloudflare’s filter by using a subdomain that wasn’t protected by Cloudflare, probably webmail.amaz0ns.com or new.amaz0ns.com. Those weren’t real, they just took you to Amaz0ns via an unprotected route. Now they’re gone.
