That said . . .
John Romano is never one to mince words on a given subject. Seems well written to me, on point to the point.

I’m sure the article wouldn’t be posted if he didn’t want some discussion about it. I disagree with his issue of the “Man Face”. When he says not all FBB have it, I think he’s way overstating it. Yes, there were some that did like Kim Chevezski, Iris Kyle, Juliette Bergamann, and currently have that kind of appearance like Aleesha Young (I still like her though). Since the Cory Everson era, there have been tons of stunningly beautiful women who have competed in the Olympia. Laura Crevalle, Alina Popa, Marie Mahabir, Debbie Muggli, Valentina Chepiga just to name a few. But it’s more than just that. I think to open up other categories especially the bikini class is an instant cash grab by the FBB. There’s tons more women who will compete in that category because it involves minimal training, less dieting, and they can keep their girlish looks. It’s far less a sport than FBB. If women can compete in the physique category and get the same prize money as in the Olympia, of course they wouldn’t train as hard or get as big. But it should be remembered that this is bodyBUILDING. Should women try to get as big as Collette Guilmond or Alessha Young? That’s up to the judges, people’s tastes, and whether women want to risk in potentially dangerous regiments to get there. But I don’t agree that the collapse of FBB is due to man-face.

Even the average supporters who like, or even love, muscular women (and I include myself of course) are repulsed by the extreme condition that most of this women put themselves into, to reach the top level of their sport. Really few of these women keep a “normal” face, like Alina Popa for example who even depleted keep her attractiveness. Most of them become just scary and I can’t even imagine myself waking up a morning next to someone looking like them.
When we look at the female muscle art world what do we see ? Ultra muscular women with top models faces. It’s a constant, and that’s what most of us, I think, like : Beautiful and/or feminine, attractive muscular women.
That’s why, I hope that the Physique class will bring back the chance to see female bodybuilders that keep in sight a sensible attitude towards their sport. Women like the ones I enjoyed looking at in the Women’s Physique World’s videos.
Of course, BodyBuilding is about building the best body possible, and it’s up to the women who want to to push themselves as far as they can, but when we talk about competition, we talk about a business. Promoters expect to get some money out of the shows they build, and in that regard yes, “Man-Face” is one of the main reason why Female Bodybuilding as a show is dying.
I hope that the use of the idea of Femininity didn’t hurt anyone’s feelings, as it is a very subjective concept.
English is not my native language so sorry if there’s too many mistakes 🙂
August 19, 2015 at 10:38 pm #127214khuddleParticipantIf it dies in favor of the Physique category, it would be sad but not the end of the world for me. I really, REALLY like the Physique category. I was MORE taken by the Physique athletes at the Tampa Pro Show this year than I was by the Female Bodybuilders. I never thought that would happen, but there you go.
All of that said, let us hope that female bodybuilding does NOT die out! Not until I’m dead, at least.

The debate on there is pretty intense man, thanks for the link. But as I go through a lot of the comments, I guess a lot of people are Anti look from what I can see though.
