I finally saw part of an episode of the new Supergirl tv series. My wife said that the actress playing her needed about 20 lbs of muscle to look more credible. I was surprised she said it and I told her that I agreed with her assessment.

So yes, Hollywood is terrified of women with muscles.

Yeah, this is the kind of physique that would be more credible . . . 😉 🙂 B)

I think they actually sewed muscle shapes into the costume so she doesn’t look quite so puny as Supergirl.

How did you feel the first time you put on the Supergirl costume?

The first time I put the costume on, it was a mixture of a lot of emotions. It’s impossible not to feel empowered when you put it on. You would think, “Oh, it’s silly. I’m putting on tights. I’m putting on a leotard and a skirt. There’s muscles built into the suit. There’s a cape. I’m going to feel like it’s Halloween.” But something changes internally. I feel like a different person almost. It really is an alter ego, where I feel inspired, hopeful and empowered. I tried the suit for the first time on at the costume designer’s house. I had just had an injury to my eye, so I had an eye patch on. [Laughs] So simultaneously, I’m feeling all these feelings of empowerment and positivity and femininity and strength, and I have this pirate patch on essentially. It was a little goofy. There was two things going on at once — two opposing factors of trying the suit on.

I’d noticed that, too. Still, I’ll take the read deal over a padded suit, always. 😉 B)

My vote for Supergirl is Cindy Philips. The right age, the right look, and definitely the right muscles.

We have been making the point here for years that Hollywood is anti-muscle woman.

But we have not discussed about the reason for this and how to fix it in depth yet.

So what the cause of this problem and how do we fix it?

Finally someone brought up this issue. I think Hollywood mirrors society at large,Hollywood basically gives us what they think the society wants. If society at large sees muscular women as disgusting, then they won’t portray muscular women in a positive light. That is why almost all muscular women in movies are either ugly or evil. As to how to fix it, we will have to address the society. I am not sure how we go about doing that. I do think the society is slowly changing and now slowly accepting muscular women, just not as fast as we like them to.
