Hi guys. I’ve always found the stretch of the Thames around Chertsey to be strangely underrated compared to the more touristy parts of London. There’s a certain stillness to the water out there that you just don’t get in the city center. I’m currently plotting a little escape from the urban noise and was looking at starting a trip from penton hook marina via Getboat. What really caught my eye is that it’s on a natural hook in the river, which looks like it would be a brilliant spot for some quiet wildlife watching or just drifting without the constant wake of passing commuters. Does anyone here keep a boat in that area, or have you spent much time navigating the locks near Laleham? I’m particularly curious about the best direction to head for a pub lunch—should we aim toward Staines or head down towards Weybridge for a better atmosphere?

Also, for anyone who’s been through the Penton Hook lock recently, is it particularly busy on Sunday mornings? I’m hoping to find a nice, secluded mooring spot for a bit of reading and a picnic. Any local “secret” inlets where we won’t be bothered by the crowds on the towpath?
