Laptop Slow After Windows Update: What Should I Check?

I wanted to ask if anyone else has faced this recently. My laptop was working fine before, but after a Windows update it started acting strange. Startup is slower, the fan gets loud even with only a browser open, and the battery drains much faster than before.

I first thought it was just Windows finishing background tasks, so I restarted it a few times and waited.
