So I'm browsing MacCentral, and I come upon this article about some new TV shows that have been added to the iTunes Music Store. Along with "Friends" and "Babylon 5", the article mentions a "never-before-seen pilot episode of 'Aquaman.'”

Did anyone here know about this? Since it doesn't involve muscle-women, I'm not surprised it didn't get written about on this forum, but it comes as a surprise to me; I guess I'm more "out of the loop" about what's coming in movies and TV than I thought. (Then again, I'm not what you'd call a big Aquaman fan.)

The Aquaman pilot was produced by the creators of Smallville for the new "CW" network (the recent merger of The WB and UPN); apparently the series was never picked up and the pilot never aired. Now it's available through iTunes for $1.99, viewable through the iTunes application or QuickTime Player (and supposedly on the video iPod, although a couple of customers are warning of problems transferring it). Of three reviews posted so far, two are enthusiastic, while the third mentions only the iPod transfer problem.

This brings up some interesting questions: if an unaired pliot like this shows up on a (legal) download site and generates good sales (already #5 in sales among TV shows on iTunes) and positive reaction, could this cause a network to change its mind about picking up the series? (Much like Family Guy got brought back from cancellation because of strong sales on DVD.) Could download sites like this be a viable alternative for producers who want to get their shows before the public when the networks aren't interested?

    That's an idea…

I wish they had this back when Max Headroom was around.
