I was taken to task the other day because folks I know were telling me that my bigger girls were all too 'nice' (I dunno how true that is, but still), so after some caffeine-induced experimentation I threw this together. Some of you may remember my ex-model-turned-mass-monster Victoria Secrest (been about two years since I drew her last), and I thought she'd be a good subject to work with. Still, even in domme mode she looks a bit more playful than threatening…at least from where my head's at, I think this is about as mean as my girls get, which is to say not much at all. :p
April 3, 2007 at 3:35 pm #49622LuParticipantHonest Doc, you have to work on your evil!
She does just look more cheeky than anything, I think.
It's still awesome work I'm glad to see though :pAnd ironic, apparently most people think my girls are sinister (which.. is actually only true for one, so I'm not sure where they get the idea all of them are..) when I try to make most of them cute!
Oi, let me at your brain cells.
April 3, 2007 at 4:38 pm #49623JimmyDimplesParticipantFrankly, I think you hit the "meanness" saturation point just right.
Your ladies of power just don't have the nastiness that would make us run in terror from them just on sight.
And frankly, I love it that way.
Don't try to change your style, m'man. It's wonderful as is, IMNSHO.
And so's the picture. Faboo, and thanks. 🙂
April 3, 2007 at 4:44 pm #49624Dr.OttoParticipantI like to think that Victoria here would laugh at you not because she was inflicting pain, but because she wouldn't even HAVE to to keep you in line. :p
April 3, 2007 at 5:34 pm #49625JimmyDimplesParticipant???
She'd laugh at someone who believes in treating someone the way he or she would want to be treated? Because he or she believes in that?
Ugh. All of the sudden, she's NOT such a babe anymore. 🙁

April 3, 2007 at 9:06 pm #49628Amazon LoverParticipantHmm… making characters look MEANER? Perhaps the following would help:
– Moody shading and colors: Dark coloring means dark character. A white background? NOT scary. However, you can also try a background that's an intense, firey red or orange to contrast with a darkly-colored character.
– Scary mouth: When Kulli's characters are in a darker, scarier mood, their mouths show it. Their teeth are clenched (Sometimes showing off their canine teeth), and either curled in an angry frown or a cruel smile. What's most important is that if someone mean or evil is experiencing intense emotions, they show as much of their teeth as possible. Otherwise, a wide-mouthed sneer or frown will do, for their calmer moods.
– Scary eyes: Characters that are dark – or even villainous – usually will not look at someone head-on. More often than not, they offer a sideways glance, often through squinting eyes, as if to say, "You're so pathetic, you're not even worth my full attention." Dark makeup helps around the eyes of girls (And sometimes guys, where appropriate), as well. Tall, thin, catlike pupils don't hurt, either! Also – and this is a common trick in anime – mean characters will often have hair over their eyes; the eyes are the window to the soul, so by using their hair as a natural mask or barrier, they are concealing something you probably don't want to know about. This is why characters with sunglasses or masks can be scary as well.
Hope this helps!
April 3, 2007 at 10:08 pm #49629David C. MatthewsParticipantI think Dr. Otto and I are coming from the same place, or at least similar places: we simply don't like bullies.
I'll speak for myself from here on, and assume that Chris holds similar feelings. But I can't respect anyone (even – or maybe even especially – if she's a muscular woman) who feels that great physical strength and/or an intimidating (intentionally or not) appearance gives them carte blanche to run roughshod over other people's rights.
I'm proud of the fact that the characters I've created are, so far, gentle, friendly and caring women – who are capable of messing someone up real good if provoked. But they don't derive pleasure out of inflicting pain and distress on others. And if I do create a "bad girl" character, know in advance that they will be a villainess who'll (eventually) get their a** whupped by my "good girls", and rightly so.
Quite a few e-mailers over the years have requested drawings portraying Tetsuko and/or Satin as leather-clad dominatrixes. I have to write them back politely declining, explaining that I'm not into that stuff myself, I wouldn't even like a woman like that if i met them in real life, and it's something I don't think I can convincing pull off because my heart wouldn't be in it.
April 3, 2007 at 10:27 pm #49630LuParticipantSeems most guys like the 'gentle giant' types. Anyone shed some light on why that is?
All of my muscled females are gentle in that they don't like hurting people, except for Lu. I guess she's the darker part of my personality and that's why I can really play her so well. It's a possibility she's a part of me I never like to have in myself, and express through her. I'm not saying she can't be nice, because a lot of the time she's kind too, but, she's.. almost got multiple personalities in that way.
(Well, Yeva is a little 'evil' but she's a vampire, and she's not a character anywhere near close to my heart like the others. It's a put-on, really.)
K2 and Freak are the other ones I write/roleplay, and they're as sweet and gentle as you could ever imagine. See? They're so cute! …in my own, warped imagination. They're the type that would only want to hurt someone if they had a good reason. As much as I like my sweeter characters, Lu is still my favourite.
So what's the deal with the good girl/bad girl thing anyway? I find things I like in both of them. -
