I'm a guy through and through, but I have to admit that one of the best motivators for me to get in shape is seeing a fit and lean female body builder. I don't mean in a 'Holy crud she is so hot I want her NOW' kind of way, but more like a, "I want to be buff like her too" kind of way, and I just don't get that same pull from guy body builders who, nevertheless impressive, just don't make me want to lift weights.
Anyone else experience this/have any comments?
April 28, 2007 at 2:47 am #51203JimmyDimplesParticipantVery good point, Titaneer.
On a different tack, I'd taken a different angle: I'd decided to stay OUT of shape because of the jock-strap-head guys WERE.
I thought, if all the cranial-rectal inverts were physically active and muscular, why would I want to look like I belong to THAT club?
But my tune changed somewhat when I started writing on a high school's girl's sports program. I saw a lot more friendliness, team spirit, and unity with each match. Girl athletes, at least there, were just plain nicer.
And I think that if THEY'RE into having a fit, strong body, I guess it wouldn't really hurt ME that much.
That's what I'd think about if I had the time and wherewithal to work out, anyways.

Speaking for myself, there is some truth in what you say about motivation of the buffed females incouraging a "me wanting to be buffed, too" reaction. However, I'm also strongly inspired by the male athletic / bodybuilding side as well, but of the old school verity as my ideal archetype. Ones such as Steve Reeves, Larry Scott, Frank Zane, Arnold, Mike Mentzer, or Lee Haney. Those of the current era are of no motivational interest to me, lacking any form of proportion or symmetry – rather, in my eyes, they are hyperbulked-out to the point of utter absurdity.

Now why aren't there more well-built, musclebound COMEDIANS out there? Someone who can make being fit… a HOOT?
April 29, 2007 at 8:50 am #51207NecrochildKParticipantFrom at least this woman's perspective, it's more like I see guys like Lee Priest or this one guy at the gym I go to and it's in my head "I want to be THAT big..! Or bigger." I want to go as big as I can and as strong as I can. For me though, it's wanting to have the health at least of a normal person, and wanting to be more than I ever was before cancer.
April 30, 2007 at 6:15 am #51208LParticipantI like pushing weight, its something that I do pretty well. Building muscle is a lifelong journey, it never ends, its a lifestyle, there is always room for improvement and tweaking and adding, its something I get enjoyment out of and I'm sure if more people did it properly and strictly they would be hooked too ;)My inspiration comes from within. I guess you can call it the dark side kinda like Star Wars 😛

I'm with ya here, Titaneer. I find buff babes to be extremely motivating. Buff guys don't really do that for me.
May 4, 2007 at 4:16 pm #51211ScottGParticipantI'm not entirely sure I agree with Titaneer on this one. I am not a huge guy and I never will be, but I am stronger than many and I am motivated to be stronger than other men and to impress the "Holy Crap she's hot, I want her now!" type women.
