ParticipantWell it's about time! He's about as much of an icon as the characters he's created! ;D

ParticipantYou're right, BTX…I forgot that Kirby was along Stan as well…my apologies for that oversite.

Participantum…actually it was mainly Kirby. There's a reason Stan wasn't allowed into Jack's funeral after all. Although I do like how he's posed as if he was caught running off with spidey's mask.

KeymasterThe problem with Stan Lee is that he's over-promoted himself so much that his actual, substantial contributions seem minuscule next to what he claims to have accomplished. And so the result is that people who are in-the-know about American comics tend to have a fairly low opinion of him.
Through Marvel, Stan Lee owned Spider-Man, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, etc., which means he ultimately benefited more from those creations than their creators. That's in the nature of running a business – Kirby, et als, were paid for their work at the time. Stan bought their work product from them.
Stan Lee should be credited for identifying the best talent and giving that talent an environment where it could be phenomenally productive. What's genuinely obnoxious about Stan Lee is that in addition to getting most of the money, and the credit for turning Marvel into what it was/is, he also insists on being credited for inventing the characters, when his direct role in that was relatively small. His need for recognition is monstrous.

ParticipantAs the face (and voice) of Marvel so to speak he's perfect. Compared to Julius Schwartz, well not that there's some sort of EIC beauty contest, but Stan is great in that capacity. I don't hold any ire towards him really but when it comes to credit where credit is due the industry has always had it's problems, and not just Marvel.
Another thing to consider is the major characters created after Jack left marvel. With the exception of Cockrum's X-men, there's…punisher, gambit and venom? 😀

KeymasterYou forgot Cable.

Participantintentionally 🙂 I could have mentioned deadpool but it's pretty well known he's Deathstroke the Terminator smooshed with Spidey, also created by noted plagarist Rob Liefeld.

Who continually rips off Kirby's dynamics without understanding what to do with them. Meh, I prefer Godland.
