I don't quite know what to say here; I think I've probably said enough, actually…

Satsurou has decided to quit drawing the silly muscle/muscle luf comics.  The link where he gives his reasons is here:

After reading that, I know how he feels. I really do. Knowing your work doesn't measure up to professional or talented people. Oh GOD DO I KNOW HOW HE FEELS.

Never really got a chance to see his comic, wish I had now.

I would have said something if he had felt otherwise with his comic.  He said that he felt that his comic sucked and therefore all he needed was that one person to say "Yeah I agree with you" for him to actually go ahead and kill it off.

But if he said he loved doing the comic and that he loved drawing it, he would have been making a colossal mistake.  A person should not try to compare themselves to established professionals when they are first starting out.  All they're going to do is shoot down their self esteem and keep asking themselves "How come I can't do that?"  I remember being envious of other artist's amazing talents at drawing, but I continued to draw anyway and just ignored what everyone else was doing because I wanted to draw for ME.

It made ME happy and if I wanted to make terrible animations, disproportionate muscle characters, badly colored images, then I was going to do it.  Granted years and years of practice have allowed me to reach a point where I can be satisfied with my own work, it was important to keep in mind that I drew because I loved it, not because it was professional.  I know there's tons of pros who look at my stuff and go "amateur" at least when it comes to drawing.  But hey as long as I love it I don't care.

It's too bad he decided to stop the comics, too many artists who draw decently have low self esteem.  The ones that draw in a passable or terrible manner have all the confidence in the world.  How ironic.

You've clearly been looking at my dA page…

I will ask him if I can make the old files available to people who want them here; I wheedled a copy of them out of him- he said it may be missing an image, but if so, it's the only one…

You know Collector does make a point.

Maybe bad artists have confidence because they've accepted their "sucky" artwork. But they enjoy it, and if someone else does too, all the better. Meanwhile professional or similarly aspiring artists are always second guessing themselves and only need a single negative comment to topple their house of cards.

Or they build up a thick layer of skin to protect from the barbs, and inevitably wind up becoming somewhat like the jerks they've been fighting against.

Nope; Sat's one of the artists whose work I save regularly. I have the whole series.

It's a shame when a "friend" talks someone out of doing their art.  🙁 I've had a few try.

I'm glad you're still in the game.
