Move over Ms. Biel, there's a whole bunch of Wow now playing at your local theater. First the important stuff. Oh yeah, Rhona hit the gym in a serious way for this one and spends most of the movie in a black tank top and some very tight pants to make sure we all know it. Wirter/director Neil Marshall does a fantastic job of delivering on one well framed profile shot after another, the zenith of which is when Rhona is staring down a rearing horse which becomes nearly invisible next to her stunning silhouette. As for the movie itself, it's 28 Days later meets The Road Warrior with plot holes becoming exponentially larger as the movie progresses. By the end there's really nowhere for the story to go that isn't wildly, shoot it with a tranquilizer gun, tag it and make sure you're at a safe distance before it comes to, implausible so be sure to leave your brain at the concession stand. A shame since Marshall's earlier The Descent was just all kinds of creepy and had much potential. Not much in the way of acting or dialogue though and in many shots Malcom McDowell's nose looks just like a wayward new potato of W.C. Fields proportions. Many of the action scenes are poorly shot and/or edited so it's difficult to tell what's going on, but there are exceptions that more than make up for it. All in all, not a very good movie but like Ms. Biel in Blade 3, Rhona completely dominates the film and she gets top billing. Perhaps a soon to be female action star for which we've always hoped and of whom we can all be proud. She gets top billing in next year's Underworld: Rise of the Lycans which is also quite promising but as the film is directed by Patrick Tatopolus, once a production designer, one of the guys responsible for that so-called Godzilla from '98, Battlefield Earth and designer for the previous Underworld films… I'll just let that one play out before passing any judgment. Also, Doomsday has lots of blood, severed limbs, heads and an exploding rabbit. Really.

March 17, 2008 at 5:59 am #68444Buddy_BusenParticipantAnd another thing:
For those of us who are fans of Ghost In The Shell, Rhona's character is a Major and sports a hair style nearly identical to Major Kusanagi's from the first film. Coincidence?March 17, 2008 at 11:05 am #68445shinmirokuParticipantTo bad she doesn't have an awesome FMG scene like Ghost in the Shell 🙁
March 17, 2008 at 8:26 pm #68446Buddy_BusenParticipantYou mean the one right before she tears herself apart trying to open that hatch?
Yikes.
And while it is a shame that there is no such event in Doomsday, Rhona is still quite impressive. For those of us willing to put up with the movie, you may notice that early on Rhona appears only to be skinny, but I promise you that as the film continues you'll see that there really is quite a lot of muscle going on with her.BB.

March 22, 2008 at 5:30 pm #6844800treeParticipantIt was very cheesy and had a lot of "but how did they get that to work" type things happen. I was theroughly entertained. 😀 As a side note it also had about half the cast from the movie Dogsoldiers in it which is a huge plus. If your a fan of the WhereWolf thing Dogsoldiers is a must 😀
March 23, 2008 at 9:46 am #68449GrandmasterParticipantIs "Spoon" in it, 00tree? Spoon's a wild boy!
March 24, 2008 at 6:04 am #68450BlackKusanagiParticipantI thought it was ok. :3
