Secret Lives of Women: Amazon Women

Airs April 22 at 10:00 PM ET

    Synopsis:
Since the beginning of time, the male physique – not the female body – is what we imagine decorated with large, hard muscles. But today everything has changed. You might find more muscled babes than hulking he-men at the gym.

“Amazon Women” combine bulging biceps with a pin-up sexiness that turn the question of what is feminine upside down.

Meet 4 muscle babes as they train, compete, and work at becoming the most chiseled, and sexy female bodybuilders.

Dr. Dena Westerfield is a champion bodybuilder and a doctor of chiropractic medicine. She also has an alter ego called Dr. Sexy who enjoys dressing up in barely nothing outfits and posing for photos on her website.

Emery Miller was an overweight married mom who pushed herself past just getting in shape to become a muscle goddess. With her husband by her side, Emery has become a personal trainer and bicep babe.

Joan Lopez is a professional body builder and married mother of three. She frequently puts younger women to shame with her chiseled physique. She also must deal with her husband who does not like her muscled body.

Lauren Powers has turned her massive body into a mini-empire of muscles. From web cam shows that cater to muscle worship fetishists, to personal wrestling sessions with men half her size.

Hi. Sorry is this is in the wrong place, but I just have to leave this comment. I wonder which gym this comment applies to? My current gym USED to be fairly populated by women building muscle in earnest. But over the years, that population has dwindled considerably. In fact, the number of women, in the gym, has dropped generally. Maybe it's just my gym. I don't know. What's it like in other gyms?

Still I plan to watch this. Thanks Lingster.

I go to my school's gym, so this is probably not representative, but a lot of the athletes, especially track athletes, lift weights seriously.  Most of the girls, though, are sorority types trying to jog and tone themselves into a size 0.

The WE TV website has a cool picture on the front page right now for the show.  It's a split shot of a woman carrying a laundry basket with normal clothes on one side, and the other side showing her in work-out clothes flexing a nice bicep.

That really saddens me to hear that. That's why we need more positive portrayals of muscular women in the media. Maybe the revival of Gladiators will help with that.
