Tracey Anderson and the 3 pound weights

    I had no idea who Tracey Anderson was until I looked at this, but I officially hate her now. I mean… I can do like infinite reps with 3 pounders, and I'm a pretty weak guy (slight case of muscular dystrophy, I still function normally in every way, I just don't build muscle as fast or have as much as average people).

    And that picture on the article he linked… by no means is that healthy looking or hot! Is this excersize supposed to make you weaker?! Because it sure doesn't look like it's making anyone fit. I'm not JUST attracted to muscular girls, but… for me to be attracted to someone they have to have SOMETHING on them.

    Anyways, to sum this up… Tracey Anderson sucks and it's hard to believe that women would believe stuff like this…

    Ah, a fellow disabled member.  I have Osteogenesis imperfecta, so I have rather weak bones, use a wheelchair and I'm quite short…and even I could do reps with 3 pound weights.  I just find it hilarious that she say that women shouldn't lift more than 3 pounds when most handbags are heavier than that. ;D

    While I totally dissagree with this article, I can also see where they're coming from.  Most women throughout the world are totally content to be small weak and demure.  Now if they feel pressured into working out, this is most likely the approach they'll take. 

    It's a very good thing that any woman serious about working out has access to facilities and training programs that will help her reach her goals.  Anything is possible!  I just wish that people like Tracey didn't get so much media attention and coverage…

    It's a very good thing that any woman serious about working out has access to facilities and training programs that will help her reach her goals.  Anything is possible!  I just wish that people like Tracey didn't get so much media attention and coverage…

    I think (certainly it's the explanation in my case) that we're raging here because of what you said – the pressure on girls is bad enough, then the likes of this woman come along, and, either through their own ignorance or (more likely, IMO) opportunistic tactics, take advantage of the reticence of most of these girls by reassuring them that, if they never work-out with anything heavier than 3 pound dumbells they won't end-up looking like "teh Ahhhnold" circa 1980.  In fact, if you look at the article linked-to by the personal trainer who is ranting about this, mostly the resistance isn't even as much as three pounds, but only gravity and air resistance. ::)

    I'd love to see photos of someone like Pauline Nordin offseason on billboards with a note underneath saying something like "I workout with heavy weights"  or  "Lifting heavy made me look this hot" as I think most girls think they'll look unfeminine and ugly if they pump iron.  The only thing that will do that is excessive steroid use (please note my use of the word "excessive").

    I'm more concerned with the idea that she advises working out in 80 degree heat, which sounds dangerous.  Sweating a lot doesn't mean you're losing weight, it just means you're losing water.  Not only do you gain that weight back as soon as you drink water to rehydrate yourself, it's not really healthy to dehydrate yourself during a workout.  You're already going to sweat if you are working out.  And Paltrow suggests that if she didn't exercise so hard, she'd weight 300 lbs, which is highly doubtful given her genetics.

    People will do some pretty unhealthy things in order to promote healthier living.  ???
