Review of Andy’s Muscle Goddesses (AMG)
URL: http://www.amg-lite.com
Cost: FreeFocus: A free website that highlights well-known females with muscle. No particular aspect of female bodybuilding is focused on.
Theme: Non-nudes, complimentary highlights of model’s images, used with their permission.
Does “free” come with a price, as in countless ads and frivolous banners? Yes, along the top there are numerous banners for the “Muscle Angels” website.
Ease of navigation: For a new aficionado of female muscle, it will be tough. I remember when I first became enamoured by muscle, it took me some time to learn all the women’s names on Andy’s site. Now, the navigation is very easy, but for the newbies, it’s somewhat daunting. The main “update” section guides you to what you may be looking for, i.e., thickness, hair color, etc..
Along the left side navigation bar are the names of most female bodybuilders and models listed in alphabetical order, whis is very nice. But some of the names are emphasized with small circular symbols, which made absolutely no sense, and probably won’t to the first time visitor.
Overall look and feel: Andy’s is quite easy to play around in. I’ve always thought of it as my neighborhood sandbox where there’s something in it for everyone.
How often updated: Their updates are incredible. Daily. ‘Nuff said. 😉
What I like: I LOVE AMG’s monthly feature, “Muscle Goddess of the Month”. I admit, I do look forward to seeing whom he picks as his belle for each particular month.
I also appreciated AMG discarding that dreadful and most annoying midi-music that used to play in the background when visiting the site. I’ll never forget the first time I show AMG to my (then) girlfriend, how she nearly jumped out of our bed when that music blasted out on the speakers of my laptop.
What I didn’t like: The infrequent updated model sections don’t load at all, for example, Rachelle Cannon’s section. Not that it bothers me, but if I’m a particular fan of hers, I would be irritated. Why its even listed when the images don’t load is puzzling.
Its also obvious the AMG site sponsors the pay site “Muscle Angels”, and their numerous banners at the top of their page are slightly misleading. At first glance, they make the visitor believe that the updates are AMG’s updates, when in fact they are PAID UPDATES for another site altogether. I understand that’s the nature of the beast these days, but for the first time visitor, it would (in my opinion) be misrepresentative. Free often DOES come with a price. But if AMG is becoming nothing more than a launching pad for “Muscle Angels”, then one has to wonder how long AMG will keep up this free site?
I understand the whole “dangle the carrot” concept in marketing and promotions. I get it, but as I’ve watched AMG’s site over the years, its clear the direction they are heading. Enjoy it while you can, boys and girls, but I see the writing on the wall here.
Afterthoughts: I always enjoy visiting Andy’s site. It’s been a staple of my sweet addiction for many years now, and I appreciate Andy taking the time to update the site with fresh and lovely images.
Also, I ashamedly have to admit, I feel sorry for whoever writes the brief descriptions of the less appealing models… “the very well built and very good looking” descriptions have made for many laugh out loud moments for me. Maybe that’s because we girls notice those details, who knows. But God love them, they do TRY and be as sweet as they can be.
An excellent potpourri of the glorious beauty and splendor of female power and strength.
Final Grade: B-My next review is for AWEFILMS.com Stay tuned… 😉
February 10, 2010 at 9:41 pm #89983maestrojbParticipantWell written review, fun to read. Fair and balanced, thought the final grade of B- seems a bit lower than I expected given the many laudstory comments.
Thanks, Mimi, for taking the time do write.

The review is well written (especially for non-native speaking people like me).
However, I disagree on the B- too.
Do you know many people who run paying websites (MuscleAngels, MuscleAngelsVideo) and still update daily their 10 years old free website ? Personally I don’t.
Even if we all know that AMG probably brings a lot of people to the Muscle Angels member section.AMG still is and certainly will stay, the best resource site for free female bodybuilding material.
😉

Damn, Andy did luv using those MIDIs to load up (and often caused ppls browsers to freeze-up) with each and every page on his original AMG site.
Thank the Great Maker he shed ’em for his (then) Lite site.

But I agree with the review completely.
February 11, 2010 at 11:04 am #90010stmercy2020ParticipantA very good review; I don’t have a problem with the B-, personally. Speaking as a person called to place grades on fairly amorphous subjects (high school English papers? You’re joking, right?), I understand just how nebulous assigning a fixed value can be. Given the number and the severity of both the complements and the negative comments, the B- seems like a very fair grade.
I’ve been to AMG Lite many times over the years; I remember the painful MIDI music (and, yes, it really was cringeworthy). I would not, as someone trying to learn about FBBs or FM, seek out this site as my first stop, because it assumes a certain degree of background knowledge that may or may not actually exist. I also have to agree that, while Andy does a phenomenal job, there is room for improvement- a couple of good editors would be an excellent place to start. Given that it’s not raking in tons of money, unfortunately, they would probably have to work pro bono, and that can seriously limit the quantity and quality of applicants. Ditto for getting someone(s) to clean up dead links…
The prevalance of Muscle Angels advertisements never really bothered me; in point of fact, having the ads there helps when I see a clip of a video I might want to watch, because then I know where to go in order to get it…
While the site got a B-, I give the review a solid A.

I agree completely with Mimi’s assessment and in regards to the above quote, I learned quickly to take their more than generous descriptions of some of the ladies with a grain of salt.
February 15, 2010 at 9:42 pm #90115MaxxCParticipantI guess he wanted to give a nod to the women’s hard work no matter how they looked which is admirable since it’s a “Muscle Goddesses” site. Besides, looks are subjective after all.

Those are to indicate pages which have been updated in the past few days.
February 18, 2010 at 7:40 am #90150HolidayParticipantAMG-Lite is still one of my favorite websites because it has a clear list of past and present FBB’s. Whenever I can’t remember the name of a bodybuilder I can go there.
