While looking up the recent Miss USA pageant I stumbled upon the hooplah over January's Miss America pageant. A British newspaper had an article that complained about some of the contestants being too athletic.
Looking at the pics myself, I say to hell with that writer. I'm glad there's one national pageant that doesn't offer the usual frail bodies. You go girls!

April 24, 2009 at 12:59 am #82729The RiddleParticipantDaily Mail article I believe you're referring to: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1126965/Miss-beefy-America-How-athletic-American-beauties-turned-pageant-battle-biceps.html
Written by "Daily Mail Reporter"Next, we have an article by a Richard Shears, describing how a contestant in the Australian leg of the Miss Universe pageant was uber-thin and below the WHO's definition of malnourished. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1172844/No-role-model-Miss-Universe-pageant-attacked-malnourished-beauty-queen.html
Mainstream media will never be happy. At least -we- know what we like!

I guess some men are still threatened by the idea of an athletic woman. Better to have them looking thin and weak so that they remember their place, is it? ::)

The day they say that the country isn't going to the dogs because of the immigrants/liberals/Health and Safety Executive/European Union (delete as appropriate) wil be the day that that the sun will rise in the West.

Ah, I see. The UK's version of the New York Post. 🙂

Yes LOL. They seemingly have no original insight or ability to discuss political matters in an intelligent mnner, so resort to disgruntled indignation about the state of the world.
June 6, 2009 at 7:43 pm #82734mistaricstaParticipantI had no idea about this, an in all honesty it pisses me off. So, pretty much, all I'm seeing are women with different body types(some of which are SLIGHTLY muscular), and some people are crying foul. Might as well tell the girls 'Wow, you're a beautiful girl, but your build is all wrong'! *Sigh* The pageant world has gotten THAT much uglier to me, and I hope things change soon or the pageants just plain fade away into oblivion…
Funny thing, at least, is on the linked page. On what I'm guessing is the 13th row of pics(two brunettes, first one in a black and blue swimsuit), it kinda looks like a fmg morph, or maybe it's just me!

Yes it's like they really lack some basic manners. Everybody is entitled for their opinions, but it's just plainly rude to comment others looks like that even though they are in beauty contest, because I think it's sort of discrimination; one is really in shallow waters when they base their subjective opinion only in others deviance.
June 9, 2009 at 3:52 pm #82736cpbell0033944ParticipantOn an intellectual level, the dictionary definition of discrimination (the ability to choose based on criteria) is a good thing. It's differential treatment based on that which is bad.
