I have noticed this lack of female heroines in films over the last fifteen years or so. I find it very strange. Surely there must be a massive market for strong female characters, physically and mentally, yet film producers don’t seem to be prepared to take risks. Most blockbusters are boring and predictable. Come on, Hollywood; stop being cowards and let’s have more heroines!

Less than been a lot of female heroes over the past couple of decades. But Hollywood is picking women for looks not physical ability in these roles.

I mean Scarlett Johansson is 5 3 and does not even have a toned body. She thin but got no muscle tone! We need female super heroes that are in shape for god sake. Even sienna miller workout (gained like 5 pounds of muscle she said) and got toned for her role as baroness in GI JOE and look great doing it!

If you are a female super hero you need to be in shape! SJ may have fit into that outfit of her but she was thin and untoned as one can be!

every female hero movie BOMBED since supergirl
which was the worst…. well cat woman annnnnd Electra but, Helen Slater look like somebodies starving kid sister.
the scripts were awful and special effects were half baked.
    and
Captain Janeway always reminded me of a Nun school teacher, that a light came on in her crouch when ever her legs were open.

Janeway acts and sound like she was 70 years old. I thought that was worst cast for a female captain. I know they didn’t want a pretty face but come on….

Never was a fan of ST: Voyager (way too wimpy, too whiney)
Or for that matter ST: DS9 (a concept ripped off from Babylon 5)

As for girlz in-power, they seem to be pushing that (almost too much, at times) with The 100 on the CW network.

Except, correct me if I’m wrong, DS9 premiered in ’93 and Babylon 5 premiered in ’94. Hard to ripoff something that doesn’t exist yet. Both good shows IMO.

While DS9 did premiere before B5, JMS pitched the idea to Paramount and the Star Trek folks first, and they denied him. Only to come out with DS9 later. And then B5 happened.

I wish the article included video game heroines. I’m not a fan of Lara Croft. But Bioware’s franchises and recent Elder Scrolls have allowed players to create their own leading heroines.

They should do a Red Sonja movie, I bet Milla Jovovich could play the part.
