It actually made things worse for most people, I still have company insurance for now
December 29, 2014 at 2:48 am #123830cpbell0033944ParticipantSo costs have gone up? I can’t see how not having insurance now is inherently worse than not having insurance last year? Anyway, that’s OT – best wishes to Alina for a rapid recovery,
December 29, 2014 at 8:48 am #123833TC2ParticipantCP the gist of it is that the health insurance costs vary depending on where you live. If you are say unemployed and look for insurance in your marketplace. Some of those plans can cost up to 400 dollars a MONTH!
If you are employed, unless you are a freelancer then you most likely have access to company insurance. Either way, since Alina is most likely a personal trainer or whatever, that’s not a “company” that she can sign up to be insured. So it’s either pay the unaffordable fee or pray that you don’t get sick. If you can’t afford it, you need to sign up for either medicaid or welfare which is another hassle all on its own.
Hopefully she can get back on her feet.
December 29, 2014 at 4:43 pm #123834AlexGKeymasterAnd you get penalized for not having any insurance in this coming yr.

Starts out small, so small if you’re unable to pay for insurance you’re better off paying the fine – ah, sorry, meant to say a tax.
(un)Affordable (no) Care Act, just another facet of Agenda 21.

~ Mark Twain / Samuel Clemens (1907)December 30, 2014 at 4:37 am #123846SeldomParticipantHey cp, many more Americans are now covered by health insurance than were before, and in general the trends are positive. Some, such as the young and already healthy, have to pay more than they would have otherwise, in order to broaden the risk pool. It’s a right-wing brain-child from the 90’s, a Rube Goldberg scheme to prop up the existing private health insurance market instead of the much simpler and less costly single payer.
It seems it’s doing well so far (as in, more coverage at less cost than the system pre-Obamacare), and if Alina wasn’t covered under the individual insurance market before, she should be now.
I hope for her sake and ours she recovers and stays healthy!
December 30, 2014 at 7:56 pm #123852cpbell0033944ParticipantThanks chaps – I thought I knew what was going on, but a US-based viewpoint is helpful. I’ve heard much about Agenda 21, and I’m afraid I don’t buy it – not for a minute. It may seem to someone from one country as though everything’s heading towards a single idea, but, seeing it from an international perspective, there’s no common movement in other G7 nations. As I anticipated, views here cover a range of perceptions. From a UK POV (given that we have a socialised system being run into the ground prior to either fragmentation and privatisation or a full overhaul), the ACA seems a bit of a half-hearted effort which doesn’t maximise the benefits of either system or minimise the respective downsides.
Back to Alina; is there any update as to her fundraising efforts? It would be sad if these injuries derailed her chance of winning Ms O just as the woman who has prevented her from winning it retires.

December 31, 2014 at 3:00 am #123856AshleeParticipantThe affordable health act is BS, it solve nothing and causing more problems. its was a way for the Dems to control the American population, and back door other things ,No tin Foil conspiracy. when you have to lie to the American people , when have you to bribe members of congress and senators to pass it ,when have to wheel barrel 0ver 2000 page bill in with additional 65,000 pages of rules and regulations! it not good for anyone.and that why the Dumocrats got creamed in the 2014 mid term election!
