I think BK just signed up to be our team's "Roadblock." 😀
😀 😀 😀
August 28, 2007 at 12:03 pm #46270The Muffin manParticipantThis (among others) is one reason why I don't buy Marvel or DC anymore – I am so heartily sick of this whole "US military=evil" sh*t.
One of these days I'm going to do a comic wherein the military are the good guys, for once.
Hate to break it to you, but SHIELD(who was largely responsible for the Superhuman Registration Act of Civil War) is not the US military.
In fact, the only thing the US Military was guilty of was following orders. And even then, SHIELD did about 99% of the Non-Iron Man dickery of Civil War.August 29, 2007 at 4:17 am #46271Delmo Walters Jr.ParticipantSHIELD(who was largely responsible for the Superhuman Registration Act of Civil War)
Actually, the President signed the act into law. SHIELD was just enforcing the law.

And I agree with Dave – my comics buying and movie attendance have both declined since both media began producing so much anti-American propaganda. I've paid to see two movies this year – I used to taken in three or four a month.

Err, no. SHIELD is not American Military. It's like the UN. The UN is not a US organization.
The President signed the act itself into law. He did not explicitly give SHIELD the authority to basically declare war on superheroes. Tony insisted it was "necessary", and after the Stamford incident, the President was pretty hard-pressed to disagree.
There is no "Anti-American" anything in comics.
Just because every page isn't lined with Pro-Bush slogans doesn't mean they hate America.August 29, 2007 at 4:06 pm #46274Prophet TenebraeParticipantNo need to squabble – here is something beyond matters of opinion… wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SHIELD
The relevant text in the article seems to be the following
"Usually led by Nick Fury as executive director, this organization often operates as much as a covert agency as a quasi-military one, initially depicted as affiliated with the United States government. Later, S.H.I.E.L.D. was depicted as under the jurisdiction of the United Nations, with vast technological resources at its disposal, with U.N. General Assembly Resolutions and legislation passed in signatory nations aiding many of their operations."
And also:
"In the Ultimate Marvel universe, S.H.I.E.L.D. is controlled entirely by the United States. It maintains ties to a sister organization in Europe, the European Defense Initiative as well as the English operated S.T.R.I.K.E."
As to anti-Americanism… well, best left well enough alone.

Please do
Marval was better when the heros are seperate, the only contact they had was spiderman and daredevil ate dinner together on the brooklyn bridge, not trying to get together in big groups like the freaky justice leauge
August 30, 2007 at 10:14 am #46276Delmo Walters Jr.ParticipantSeparate Marvel heroes? Freaky Justice League? What about the All-Winners Squad, Fantastic Four, Avengers, X-Men, Defenders, Champions, Invaders, Guardians of the Galaxy, Alpha Flight, New Mutants, X-Force, New Warriors, X-Factor, Thunderbolts, and the like? All big Marvel groups.
August 31, 2007 at 4:27 am #4627700treeParticipantGuys please, no offence but we're getting a little off the subject.
