This drawing has been hanging around for over a decade… I keep meaning to finish coloring it, but I didn't want to go through the drudgery of the background…everything behind the counter of the diner, the window of the kitchen, etc.

So I came across it again this evening… and I said "F**kit! This pic isn't getting a background! And you know what else? The solid colors work just fine if there's no background! I'm posting it as is!" (Actually, I did do a little bit of redrawing to bring her closer to her current design.)

This was a deliberate attempt at an ordinary "everyday" activity, instead of the usual gym/posing/action setting.

For whatever reason, the particular style this is drawn in reminds me of early Adam Warren art (Dirty Pair Biohazards, etc).  I think the line work, expression, and hair didi it.

Flat color is underrated! When it is done right, it can't be beat.  More people should use it.  But that is just one flat-color enthusiast's opinion.

Maybe it's the caffeine addiction talking, but I think this is my favorite Tetsuko picture of all.  Thanks for sharing it. 🙂
