After Star Trek TOS, Gene Roddenberry made a number of attempts in the 70s to create other sci-fi series, this being one of them – which had two sequels – Planet Earth (1974) and Strange New World (1975). There was also the Questor Tapes (1974).
Certain elements from these failures found their way into the Star Trek franchise of movies and series – notably Questor being the prototype for Data – and out of Genesis II the name of the character Dylan Hunt was recycled for the Andromeda series.
