Yeah, I was lucky enough to have WPW at my local grocery store. I always wondered how they came to the decision of ordering it on a monthly basis. Other magazines of a fitness nature had some workouts or tips but WPW was full of pictures and information about the ladies. I was not complaining at all, just curious.
You just triggered another memory, I can remember that for while the local Osco Drug store in my area carried WPW for a few yrs. Thinking back now, I wonder if that was true of the entire chain, or just that one because of the magazine distribution vendor that supplied that store.
I also remember back in the day waking up at ungodly hours to catch the female bodybuilding coverage as it would show at weird times. Also, waking up early in the morning to watch Kiana Tom and her friends workout on tv, wishing to live on that beach. B)
Oh ya. :woohoo:
Or how about FLEX Magazine Workout on ESPN in the early 90s? You never knew from wk to wk which FBBr would be a guest on the program.
Two I remember best were Debbie Muggli and Denise Rutkowski . . .

ParticipantI was in college when WPW first hit newstands and used to go to a local magazine place that had a huge selection. It was maybe a mile off campus. No big deal buying it. I bought all the muscle mags with women back then and was pretty big myself so they may have thought I just was into it for myself since I lifted often.
I did have one time my roomate found a couple of issues in my drawer, but he never said much about it except what is that about and I said I knew one of the girls. End of story. I think that was the Diana Panting issue.
I kept the issues well hidden in my suitcases once I lived in on campus housing. They were in the basement and not of interest to anyone but me. Musclemag, MD , and some other mags also had stuff on interest to us guys in those days. There was another , less hardcore, female physique mag in those days…..maybe Sleek Physique or something like that. Bought that too at this place. I used to read there alot and then decide. I usually got some mag….even non femuscle once in awhile.

Oh, yeah.. I remember the FLEX Magazine Workout episode w/Laura Creavalle. It was like magic.. I won’t lie, I still pick up a Flex Magazine and hope that there’s a Flex ‘n’ Femme section there like there used to be.. 🙁

ParticipantOnce I got out of college I was more discreet about buying WPW. Always went to vendors where I did not know people. As far as buying tapes….got a PO box in a close by town rather than have them come to my house after one came way late from Premier Productions and was opened. Still wonder about that.
Happened again when I had my box, though not as slow a delivery. I had given up on getting that tape. It was video #55 of Premier prods and it must have taken 75 days. I figured they just kept the money. After that ….Po box.
The good old days of the fbbing contests. I recall being over at my friends and grabbing the remote so I could check the girls during football once….used to get reactions from other guys over. I was good at it. I would flick a couple of channels fast and usually someone would say keep that on for a sec.
Some guys hates it while others were quite intrigued. Saw that at the gym over the years too.

Another one would be FLEX’s composite special issue of their Power & Sizzle features in one mag. Think it came out in ’96, was only available by mail order.
Back in the early days of the internet, when it was the wild wild west, besides the newsgroups (i.e. AAWA = alt.amazon-women.admirers or alt.binaries.fitness.centerfolds) there was also IRC chat as a place to be. I can recall one chat room in particular #FemaleMuscle on Superchat. Back then you could run into people like Mike Bogen (of WPW) or CP (Cédric Perret) there. Story I heard, don’t know if it’s true, but Al of DtV got his start up out of that chat room for setting up the website.

ParticipantHeh, we got the internet when I was like 12 in 1998 ish, so I never really had to deal with that. Of course the computer was in the hallway, so I was forever looking behind my back or waiting for everyone to go out. And I was only at my dad’s place every other weekend.
I bought quite a lot of FHMs etc though still, I thought that was pretty daring 😀
Before that I was too young to care about it, although I do remember thinking Jet from Gladiators was really cool.

KeymasterI used to hit the old newsstand in Times Square, on 42nd St. It closed recently. I was lucky because my father is also into FBBs and so I was always able to sneak into his stash as a kid.

ParticipantOne of my favoriite finds back in high school was an Ironman issue with powerlifter Vicky Gagne featured. There was one pic in particular which stood out of her in shorts, suspenders, and a T shirt. I remember her saying she thought she was more appealing to men because she had more confidence than the skinny girls. She was on some powerlifting meets on NBC’s sportsworld show in the early 80’s and was in a movie called “Goin All the Way” in which she played a weightlifter.
That one and the Amazing Charonne (Carpnetier) stood out to me in my high school years. My dad was definitely not into it. He busted my stash of wrestling mags one time and wasn’t thrilled. That would have been cool to have a dad into it.
