ParticipantYeah, it was a weak trailer. That’s why I didn’t post it here. I might give it a rental (free) but skip the theater viewing.

ParticipantSame Here, I hate how this movie is trying so hard to be taken seriously. Adding Wonder Woman to this movie almost seems pointless aside from trying too hard to be as good as “The Avengers”.
Avengers, eh?
1. Scene where superhero walks into a court room. Had that in Iron Man 2.
2. Raising the question if these superheroes are a menace. Had that in Avengers: Age of Ultron. But it was already addressed in The Watchmen.
3. Sexy female lead in a ball gown. Daredevil, Iron Man, and lots of other films! Scene where the woman gets into a car to leave isn’t new either. Nolan already did that scene in The Dark Knight Rises.
4. Scene where a hero holds a kid to protect them. Already saw that in Age of Ultron.
5.Scenes of Batman’s tragic origin. Done before. If we wanted to see what torments Wayne now it should reflect current events.
6. Obligatory scenes of Batman’s war on crime. Unnecessary. We know what Batman does.
7. Villain spouting like a philosopher. Done before. Lex acts like Loki. This is a hack job.

ParticipantI feel like you guys are being a little pessimistic. I have to admit I was no fan of Man of Steel, and I have my doubts about this movie–but I don’t think a dark-toned DC movie is necessarily a bad thing, and honestly I’m surprised that everyone’s ragging on Affleck. Have we all forgotten his recent, phenomenal work as a director and actor? Even if Batman V Superman tanks, I’m really hoping he’ll direct a Batman movie. Say what you want, the man knows how to direct.

ParticipantI don’t have a problem with Affleck. I have problem with this film.

I haven’t even gotten started on him. My problem was mainly with Wonder Gal so far. I mean, in a world where we know what amazons really look like; Serena Williams, Hilary Knight, Hope Solo, Rhonda Roussey, Danyelle Wolfe, Mia Hamm, Cindy Phillips, Shannon Courtney, and Cory Everson. This isn’t the 50s where Audrey Hepburn a.k.a. Princess Gamine was burning up the movie screens. Tennis players don’t play in high heels anymore. The rest of the world has moved on yet Hollywood keeps shoving these same fashion models of yesteryear at us as over and over again as our women heroes.
As a fan of WW I can only smh and wait for Marvel to cast someone as Captain/Ms Marvel (or maybe She-Hulk, no that’s too much to hope for) that actually looks like this generation’s women heroes. Which would mean the end of WW as the premier woman superhero as a new generation of women start equating their rl heroes with that (heretofore) hypothetical woman.
We as a society must progress more equally in our representation of ourselves (and that includes women) in our arts as well as our athletic accomplishments. And that means Hollywood needs to catch up with ESPN! (I never thought I’d say that)July 13, 2015 at 10:07 am #126716Charlie
Participant[quote=”SammiChung” post=122732]WW isn’t great in the scenes she’s shone but then again Gal Gadot ‘promised’ us she was getting fit for the role I bet the directors digitally edited anything that looked remotely ‘muscled’ from her because they’re stupid. I hope she’s not in the last 10 minutes of the film because that would be just a slap in the face. To everyone.
here she is at yesterdays comic con panel. i’m afraid not an ounce of muscle.
Did you seriously believe the Hollywood Spin Machine?

ParticipantI think it’s also worth saying that not every woman can naturally build muscle well (even some men struggle to build muscle), and I can believe pretty readily that Gal Gadot’s body type isn’t naturally muscular. Sure, I’d love to see a buff Wonder Woman–and I can try and say that’s because I’d like to see broader representation of body types for women in movies (which is true, and not just limited to buff women), but I can’t help but be cognizant of the fact that my attraction to muscular women might skew my opinion. Sure, Wonder Woman would probably be fairly buff in an ideal world; but I’m not willing to write off Gal Gadot, the actress, because she hasn’t put on a bunch of muscle which I’m frankly not sure it’s realistic for her to put on in the timeframe of this movie’s release.
There’s also the fact that even if Gal Gadot personally said “I want to put on [value] pounds of muscle!” to her training staff or whatever, I’m pretty sure a buncha DC PR guys would’ve descended on her telling her “Oh no no, you’re going to be toned, that’s the look we’re going for.”
Basically, my reaction to the whole Gal Gadot body-type controversy is that it’s the usual Hollywood bullshit, and that good movies can be made in spite of said Hollywood bullshit.
I say all this, by the way, as someone who thought Man of Steel had potential but at times was embarrassingly inadequate. But I think Zack Snyder is quite a good director; he just needs a firm hand on the story (Watchmen is his best movie. Wanna know why? Because he adhered to the graphic novel and didn’t have to try to do any narrative development, which he sucks at.) So I’m not expecting greatness, but I don’t think it’s impossible at this point, either.

That is why she should have been cast as Huntress or something. WW is THE female super hero and should have been cast with that aspect in mind. It was a big mistake and one that another studio, maybe Marvel, can capitalize on by simply casting better for Ms Marvel and then next you know WW is a relic of the past. Which given the characters handling recently is as it should be.
P.S. I did read the three actresses the studio had trying for the role. They were and very gamine. It’s not like they tried a variety of people and Gal came out as this brilliant shining actress from the sky. They had a very specific image in mind and cast actresses that fit that.
Elodie Yung, and Olga Kurylenko were the other two casting choices the studio considered.

Elodie Yung was cast as Elektra for the Daredevil Netflix series. She might be able to bulk up, but neither her role nor her studio would need her to.July 13, 2015 at 10:03 pm #126726 -
