That's the best thing ever?  Funny… I was expecting beef stew…

(An imaginary cookie to whoever gets that reference. 😀 )

    Seriously, though, funny pic! 😀

It's the hands that make it.

You have to admit, though… as StrongBad would say, that trooper IS modestly hot.

Better on the eyes than getting hot soup poured in 'em. 😉

That's his typical hand gesture.  If you watch any impressionist worth their salt, they pick up on it and exaggerate it.  Unfortunately, he has some of the tendency of his father to commit faux-pas, this being a humourous but not atypical example.

He is a genuinely lovely man, Prince Charles, who might be slightly out of touch with reality, but is making a real effort to make the world a better place.  The Prince's Trust does an enormous amount of very good work with deprived kids and apart from setting it up and bankrolling it through his Duchy Organics company, he is very involved in the running and functioning of the trust and active for many other worthy causes round the world.  But yeah, he can be a little strange at times.  Still, thank god he's not like his dad, Prince Philip!  Hmm, let me find some examples of his dad's 'charmingly xenophobic' behaviour…

        * While talking to Lord Taylor of Warwick who is a black British politician:
“And what exotic part of the world do you come from?”
          Lord Taylor: “I’m from Birmingham.”

        * Offering an easy solution to London’s congestion problems:
“The problem with London is the tourists. They cause the congestion. If we could just stop tourism, we could stop the congestion.”

        * On the problem of travelling the world in comfort:
“If you travel as much as we do you appreciate how much more comfortable aircraft have become. Unless you travel in something called economy class, which sounds ghastly.”

    * While talking to an Aboriginal Elder on a visit to Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park:
“Do you still throw spears at each other?”

        * Ever the sincere, this was said to deaf people in Cardiff while the school steel band played:
“Deaf? If you are near there, no wonder you are deaf.”

        * Following the inspection on a dodgy looking fusebox that had just put the lights out:
“It looks like it was put in by Indians.”

        * While meeting with students who had been trekking in Papua New Guinea:
“You managed not to get eaten, then?”

        * During a Royal Visit to the Cayman Islands:
“Aren’t most of you descended from pirates?”

        * During a visit to China, Philip met with a group of British students:
“If you stay here much longer, you’ll all get slitty-eyed.”

        * Said during the particularly nasty British recession of 1981 when unemployment was rocketing:
“Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed.”

        * Said to Canadians during a Royal Visit:
“We don’t come here for our health. We can think of other ways of enjoying ourselves”

and finally (and my personal favourite):

        * While chatting to a driving instructor in Scotland:
“How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?”

    Quod erat demonstrandum, I think.

For more 'father of the future king' jollity, look at the unsourced quotes here:
    http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Prince_Philip,_Duke_of_Edinburgh

The more you read, the more you come to see that there's a kind of crazy genius to the misfirings of that man's brain.  I keep on expecting to wake up one morning and find he's on the news for shotgunning peasants or something.

He certainly lends some colour to the Royal Family! ::) 8)  Thanks for the link. 😉

I'm not a big fan of people who list "trying to make the world a better place" as one of their primary activities.  I much prefer the honest self-absorption of Prince Philip.
