ParticipantNot going to spoil anything plotwise (crudtastic as it is), but at the end of Death of the New Gods #2, whatever genius writes the message to fans after the story (I could go look, but don't care much), was advertising the "Fifth World".
If that's supposed to soothe the fans (like myself) who find this whole storyarc to be lame, I hope more than myself find it an insult.

ParticipantTypical dc fashion. "Lets kill off al the charcters that aren't Superman, Batman, and Wonderwoman. Because if we kill one of those three it has to be in a twenty comic book series and they have to be the only one how dies so its more dramatic. I have another Idea lets say that this is it and their dead for good then dring them back the next week."

Probably why they decided to off the Fourth World. Superman fans no doubt know Darkseid and his cronies, but chances are the entirety of the mythology is not as well known. So it will rile up less people if people like Lightray, Black Racer, and Big Barda die.
…Didn't they promise only 3 deaths out of this Countdown thing, anyhow? Nice to see they can keep their word. A bunch of New Genesis New Gods, a handful of Darkseid's goons and certain other characters — whom I won't mention for spoilers' sake.

ParticipantWell to quote the asshole writing / drawing this…
"I sort of think of this project as putting an ending to Jack's New Gods' saga. Since Kirby's initial run on the characters others have presented them with mixed results. Looking back I'd say at least half of the past New Gods series have done more harm than good. So for me, Death of the New Gods is half honoring Jack Kirby, half mercy killing."
How about we unmerfifully kill him?

I'm with you Kusa, but first he should experience death like all the New Gods he has already killed (and the ones that will die soon too).

ParticipantIt's not. :'( :'( :'( :'(
I'm not going to read the series. I have a sad feeling they're doing it to avoid any legal disputes that might arise from Kirby's family down the road.
It's an awful idea and part of what's making DC "The House of Awful Ideas".

Sadly, DC for me is really one of those things you know is going to end horribly, but you just can't help but watch it. Countdown is atrocious (poor, poor Mary Marvel), Death of the New Gods just makes ill.
One day, writers at DC (and Marvel, but DC wins hands down with the genocide that is Death of the New Gods) will learn that killing is not necessary for a good story. Sadly, it would probably take a drastic drop in sales for that to occur to them.

ParticipantDunno. By the way, what would you say to me honoring you? See, I've got this great idea involving Tetsuko, Satin, and a few hundred kilos of dynamite…
