    Women in sports are definitely under-represented. Women bodybuilders are even more obscure in the public eye. But that shouldn’t reflect the overall state of women’s rights.

    What worries me is a possibly growing degrading of independent women. A few days ago I watched a movie starring Odette Yustman, who’s been compared physically to Megan laFox. The movie was entitled “Reckless Behavior: Caught on Tape”. Odette’s character went on a weekend trip to California to enjoy some sun with her friends. A bunch of creeps taped her and used the footage to make it appear she was in a porn video. The movie didn’t end as well as I hoped but one professor said protecting women was a lot easier when America was puritanical.

    Are western societies becoming more hostile and exploitive towards women’s liberal behavior?

    I forget, not everyone is as familar with the slang of the BB subculture.

    AAS = Anabolic–androgenic steroids

    Another would be “gear” a term for using enhancement drugs in general.

    Well, as old hands around here will know, I have quite strong opinions on this! 😛 😆

    As I’ve said before, I think FBBing will soon arrive at a crossroads. One way is to continue down the path of chasing both ever-greater size and ever drier conditioning. Whilst training and diet are obviously a part of this, it’s mainly supplementation of one sort or another, and a lot of that is AAS and growth hormones. As I understand it, the side-effects are distributed between the two. Ever noticed that some attractive-looking FBBers seem to have deeper voices than some whose faces look quite manly? That’s because most of the facial effects are caused by GH, whereas voice, heirsuitness etc. are predominantly steroid effects. Add to that the fact that everyone’s genetic and endocrine (hormonal) makeup is different, so different women will respond differently to the same drugs, and you can see how complicated the situation is. To continue down that road is to reduce the commercial aspect of the sport more, which makes a mokery of calling the sport “Pro” when only a hermit could survive financially on the prize money. If you need to do promotions, sessions etc. to make ends meet, then you’re not a Pro.
    The other route is to send the sport back to being more aesthetic. As the RX Muscle thread AlexG linked to points-out, this has problems of its own if the sport is promoted by the same people that promote men’s BBing. My solution therefore is to propose that the women themselves break away. They are so unhappy about the current state of affairs, yet are behoven to the Weiders for their lifeline.
    The answer is to let the IFBB run and promote the male side, plus, perhaps, an “FBB Extreme” series for the hardened steroid-heads and their small retinue of fans. A puristic, non-commercial series for those that do what they do on an amateur basis and want no restriction of how big and ripped they should get, or how many times a day they inject themselves. Meanwhile, the rest set up their own series and governing body to run a series of events, perhaps even a Championship alog NASCAR lines where points for finishing each event in whichever position go towards an overall championship? More events mean that conditioning necessarily cannot be as dry, and regulations that favour less heavily-roided competitors can be written by changing judging criteria. This could be marketed as being a return to the standards of the late 1980s, and, with many of the youg women that we have drooled over in recent years competing, it would surely be much more marketable (and therefore commercially-successful) than the current “who’s going to come second behind Iris this year?” snoozefest that is the Ms. O.

    I get a lot of angry stares when i went to watch female bodybuilding contest in Altantic city,
    I work out “for bulk” (9 years this comming sept.) is to feel good and compete on a even playing filed in my job.
    Remember most women were still wearing High heels in contest , saw My first contest on HBO in 81, and they have been few and far between.
    Its shame, the media & fashion industry also does not promote the healthier bodybuilder but the half starved Boyish looks of fashion models.
    but then when has Female bodybuilding ever enjoyed a postive showing.
    that 1984 TV movie was last time.

    Are you trying to attach them using the Boardcode symbol (its the one with a screen w/ a chainlink), which is for linking from another website?

    Or below the Message area from the “Select image file to attach” which is for uploading from your computer?
